Nemesis
Nemesis is the Olympian goddess of balance, justice, and vengeance. During her time as an active deity, she ensured that individuals received what they deserved, whether it was retribution for wrongdoings or punishment for relishing in excessive good fortune. Her name, meaning "she who deals out what is due," reflects her role in ensuring retribution for those deserving.
In the myths and legends of old, Nemesis is believed to have created the planet of the same name. Her battle with other gods across the cosmos led to the formation of the empire's homeworld. Although imperial loyalists attribute the solitary act of creation to the God-Emperor Tyrannus, many still believe that Nemesis formed the planet from various debris in space to be used as a projectile to attack her divine enemies, but never got around to actually throwing the sphere, causing it to lie dormant and eventually develop life. Nemesis would return to the planet, named in her honor, to bless warriors who sought vengeance against their adversaries and curse those she deemed wicked and guilty. Nemesis would participate in several wars and other great conflicts throughout the planet's history but would disappear during the rise of the Halcyon Empire. Some believe her quest for vengeance took her to search beyond the stars. Others believe that Nemesis was overwhelmed at the prospect of being the central deity of an entire planet and fled to better understand her purpose in the grand scheme of the universe.
However, Nemesis would leave behind remnants of her divine spark that manifested into the creation of sentient beings called Spirits of Vengeance. While the vengeful spirit of Nemesis is believed to flow through all things on her world, these individuals hold great distinction, possessing unnatural levels of power and abilities unique to them. They are widely recognized on the planet as being the direct spawn of Nemesis, each of them possessing her relentless will to break and ruin their enemies, often changing the tides of history. In this way, the goddess's presence is still felt on her world.
