Dwarf

Dwarves were raised from the earth in the elder days by a deity of the forge. Called by various names on different worlds—Hephaestus , Vulcan and others—that god gave dwarves an affinity for stone and metal and for living underground. The god also made them resilient like the mountains, with a life span of about 350 years.

Squat and often bearded, the original dwarves carved cities and strongholds into mountainsides and under the earth. Their oldest legends tell of conflicts with the monsters of mountaintops and the Underdark, whether those monsters were towering giants or subterranean horrors. Inspired by those tales, dwarves of any culture often sing of valorous deeds, especially of the little overcoming the mighty.

During the Eternal Conquest, the dwarves of Nemesis allied themselves with the goliaths of Wyvernrath, aiding in the forging of a mighty greatsword to slay the God-Emperor, Tyrannus. The sword was lost during the assault on Wyvernrath and resulted in the empire's victory in dominating the entire continent. The dwarves were forced to hide in their underground civilizations, but eventually, they were surprisingly forgiven and welcomed with open arms into the new empire. They were given the classification of superior due to their natural mastery over the forge and long lifespan, when compared to humans. The dwarves still stick to their tight-knit societies as they are wary of this odd truce they have formed with the empire, believing they are kept around so long as they are useful. Though they are permitted to enter the city of Highguard , dwarves only venture to the capital on special occasion.
