The Afterdeath

The traditions surrounding death in the many cultures of Sotharia are very diverse, but it is an almost unanimously held belief that there is an afterlife, as there are some who have come back to life from the dead with stories of what they have seen. They speak of an endless beach, seeing the world behind them and an endless sea ahead. The Afterdeath appears as a sort of neutral ground for the dead to reflect on their life, with time passing at the same rate as it does on the material plane. There are rumors that the Cult of the Demon Hand have found a way to gain access to this realm of death, and can bring people from it back to the world. Other sources from Candlekeep say the contrary, that they have tried and failed to reach out to and revive a long dead scholar and that they were unable to because according to their magic, they no longer existed.

However, this piece of common knowledge is actually not entirely true. There is another place after death.
