Richardo Reignheim Character in Sonnerand | World Anvil

Richardo Reignheim

Interim Lord Steward Ricardo Jamiawit Reignheim (a.k.a. The Bobcat of the Feywild)

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Reignheim is spry and wirey for his older age. His long limb's fast twitch muscles allow for snap movements and sudden speed. Reignheim's meticulously groomed appearance accentuates his plastic-surgery like facial features.

Body Features

Reignheim is a lanky and wirey individual. He has long arms and legs (some would say "noodly") that, while slender, are strong as steel girders. Reignheim is thin but not gaunt, and his shoulders are often kept low and relaxed.

Facial Features

Reignheim takes great care to keep his face well maintained and presentable. He has a square jaw that is occassionally whitened by stubbly facial hair. He doesn't like to keep hair on his chin because he keeps most of it on his lip. Reignheim's waxed and combed moustache has often been the talk of the town from how it is styled. Reignheim will put it into looping twists, point it out straight at the sides, or let it droop down low to his jowels. Reignheim's scalp is often kept covered by a bowler hat, but when it is exposed Reignheim shows that he keeps his hair neatly cropped.

Identifying Characteristics

Stark white hair and meticulously groomed moustache with a myriad of different styles.

Physical quirks

Due to extending his own life numerous times, Reignheim's skin has begun to lose all texture. His fingerprints are nearly worn away, his pores are nonexistent, and he has a remarkably low amount of wrinkles for his age. This gives Reignheim's features a "pulled taut plastic wrap" appearance.

Special abilities

Reignheim's spellcasting ability, while seldom seen, remains one of the most unique and uneasily tolerated in Moroam. Reignheim gathers his power from Oberon the Faerie King. While Reignheim garnered infamy for his magic developments, the magic he intrinsically gains from Oberon are also misunderstood.

Apparel & Accessories

Reignheim's go-to outfit is a deep forest brown 3-piece suit with an paisley-textured purple vest. He wears a bowler hat of a similar color. The earthen tones with an accent of color are a subtle nod to the fashion tastes of the Fey.

Specialized Equipment

Reignheim uses a cane. This cane serves as his spellcasting focus, but it also contains a rapier blade. Reignheim is a skilled dualist and can unsheathe the cane at a moment's notice.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

The world Richardo Reignheim was born into was a world that had managed to somehow crawl itself kicking and screaming out of the tumultuous first century of Sonnerand. The Reignheim family has called Dellwind home since before the Dematalyst, Richardo was the 6th of a total of 9 siblings; two brothers and six sisters. Richardo's parents, Dwight and Carmilla, followed the family profession in constructing defensive implements for Dellwind.   It was the Reignheim family that worked with Lord Steward Dainway in order to develop many of the homesteads located in and around Mount Daris. The family supplied over half the funding to allow for the grand structures topping Mount Daris to be erected, the Governmental Palace most prominent among them.   For Richardo, however, he would be born about 20 years too late to help in crafting these grand structures, and indeed the Reignheim name would soon fall under scruntiny.   When Richardo was 15 his oldest sibling, Abeletta, took over for the family. Dwight and Carmilla lost their lives during the Tarrasques attacks of 116-118. But Abeletta would prove an insufficient head to the family, as would the next sibling, Diamunia. 4 years of embarrassment would pass for the Reignheims. Certain individuals in Dellwind would begin to call the family cursed; and a growing superstition around the large bunch of siblings emerged.   Some accused Dwight Reignheim of Elven Supremacy tactics, which was honestly not far off from the truth. A best kept secret of the Reignheims were the magic experiments involved in many of the children's births. These experiments were, for the time, rudimentary at best. No elves were produced, nor did any of the children exhibit much of a talent for magic-- if anything many appeared worse at the arcane crafts.   Reignheim, a teenager, feeling dejected by his community, would often go outside the city to escape the politics. Here, in the area outside of Dellwind (which at this point in history appeared a mix between post-apocalyptical wasteland and remote fields) Reignheim was alone. Not many folks dared venture into the unpopulated lands-- for many new monsters and horrors were still fresh and unknown to the people of Sonnerand, even a century after the Dematalyst.   Reignheim, on one such of these treks, ventured into something many Sonneranians before him had-- yet none had ever managed to tell the tale of: a fairy ring. Lured in by the tantalizing song of talking mushrooms, Reignheim, in the blink of an eye, found himself in a parallel world of song, color, and wild magic. The Feywild.
The next 50 years, for the most part, were spent in the Feywild. The events in that time are too numerous, long, and riveting to do justice to in this passage, but Richardo quickly found that he was more capable than he or the Dellwind population may have assumed. In the Feywild Richardo developed his physical abilities through working with fey elves and encountering gey creatures.    In his first year of being in the Feywild, Richardo garnered the attention of Oberon the Fairy King. The two formed a pact, and Richardo became one of the first Sonneranians to create a warlock pact with an archfey.    It was through this pact with Oberon that Richardo's true claim to fame developed. Returning to the material plane, Richardo took the lessons of the Feywild and applied them broadly and magically to ATSQC. By far the most infamous of these creations is time-dilation and life-extending magic.   Richardo's many inventions and magical theories elevated him back to the position of prominence his family once held. The Feywild caused a change in his psyche as well, causing Reignheim to experience intense mood swings, embody eccentricism, and be 'quirkier' than most. His long standing presense in the community along with the eccentricism is what delivered Reignheim to his long-standing role as Meister of Daris Ridge, a position he held until being made Interim Lord Steward.

Gender Identity

Reignheim has a nuanced understanding of gender. Reignheim identifies as a male with He/Him pronouns, but in the Feywild he encountered all manner of androgenous, genderless, or hermaphroditical peoples (among many, many others). Reignheim understands that gender is easily malleable based on the individual, and that there are processes which can assist this. Gender, like age, is something that can be controlled, but not held-back or stifled.

Sexuality

Reignheim is aromantic. While experiencing feelings of love and affection towards others, Reignheim has zero interest in pursuing a romantic partner, starting a family, or falling in love. This was shaped by his extremely long life, and time spent in the Feywild. He is by no means prudish, nor does he shy away from these things. He just knows his lifestyle and mindset do not support a relationship.

Education

Reignheim received schooling from the Dellwind City Schooling system. By all accounts, this is one of the better educational infrastructures in place around the world (even at the time). There were no magic academies or anything of the like when Reignheim was a boy, so his general education was all that was gleaned.

Employment

Returning from the Feywild with the secrets of life extending magic, Reignheim made his fortune and name by creating breakthrough technologies and serums for Dellwind and ATSQC.    Reignheim, with funds gathered from the Feywild, began a lab in Dellwind to test different theories of life-extending magic. His successes were so great and numerous that the lab and most of its products were fully bought out from Reignheim by the ATSQC military and governmental heads. The full amount Reignheim got for this was never disclosed, but it WAS enough to allow him not to work another day for the next 250 years or so.    Therefore, Reignheim turned his attention to the public. He became the representative for his fellow elites in Daris Ridge and served as their Meister for an unprecedented period of roughly 180 years-- during which time he rarely made appearances outside formal gatherings. Reignheim preferred (still does) walking among the streets with a disguise to observe the natural 'blood flow' of the city.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Liquid Efflux was one of the first serums. Reignheim condensed the energies used in life-extending magic and alchemized it into a drinkable form. Efflux basically slows down the natural empathy insides one's body. While not extending one's lifespan, it does make the conversion of energy within the body much more effective. Efflux is still drank by almost every soldier and adventurer in Sonnerand.    The vastly greater recognized product of Reignheim's are the spells Reincarnation and Extend Life. The former allows for the complete resetting of a life, allowing anyone to relive a full lifespan starting from their late teens. The latter allows the user to reduce their age by a fluxing number of years. Both of these spells require massive amounts of energy and resources to go off.    A less known machination of Reignheim's laboratory days are the counter-spell to Extend Life: Diminish Life. This spell works in almost the same way as Extend Life, however it is a targetable spell that flux's the target's age by a huge degree. In the first battles of the War of the Ageless, this spell was used to wipe out entire swaths of legions by causing men to die of rapid muscular entropy, undiagnosed diseases, or old age.

Failures & Embarrassments

Though unknown at the time of discovery and use, the overindulgent uses of life-extending magic and magical resurrections began to create a magical imbalance across Sonnerand's Arcanomatrix. In short, the constant revitalization and restoration of so many souls began to skew Sonnerand towards an overloading of Positive Energy. People resurrected emitted this Positive Energy, and opposites attract. Negative Energy, in its many forms, began to rebound and get drawn into the Positive Energy.   This all came to a head when "The Wen" sliced across Sonnerand. Picture a rubber band being stretched further and further apart, the band itself growing more taut as it's pulled tighter and tighter. The band has two options, it either breaks or it eventually snaps back into place. The Wen was the 'snapback' effect; a tidal wave of Negative Energy that erased the Positive Energy souls.    Reignheim knew this could happen, because the Fey warned him about it a century prior. Reignheim himself was off plane when the event happened...

Mental Trauma

The weight of The Wen and his hand in causing it aren't lost on Reignheim. He feels a huge amount of guilt for not warning the world about the side effects of his magic-- but he doesn't feel sorry for introducing it. Reignheim is still confident that his magic and processes can be used to change the world-- even in their largely outlawed state.    After The Wen, Reignheim faced all sorts of ire and backlash. Reignheim NEVER revealed he saw The Wen coming (even to this day). In spite of this, Reignheim (along with most independent spellcasters) was banned of attempting life-extending or returning magic. This process was exclusively given to the greater churches of Sonnerand with strict instructions to only use the Divine Gate for any such magic attempts in the future. A few of these churches, like that of Avalure, still record and mark that Richardo Reignheim was the one who cursed Sonnerand with the ability to come back to life.   Furthermore, this constant knowledge of this huge past failure has kept Reignheim from utilizing his role as Lord Steward to its fullest extent.

Intellectual Characteristics

Reignheim sees huge potential and promise in the current generation, who seem to hold a mastery and level of control over magic that is unusual to Sonnerand. The position of Lord Steward burdens and stresses Reignheim to no end. While an intellectural, the man does not have an eye for tactics, nor is he all that good at court politics in general. This can be accredited to his patron, Oberon, who, while holding, leading, and maintaining a court himself, conducts politics in a totally alien way compared to the Dellwinders.

Morality & Philosophy

Reignheim tries to do frequent good-- often in grandiose ways. This includes things like giving people deeds to city property, offering huge amounts of the city treasury, and revealing classified information to non-officials.
