Monrith Darkwake, The Blight Mother - Fetti Historical Figure
Monrith. Monrith. Step through the water. Monrith. Monrith. Don't let her catch you! Monrith, Monrith, step through the water. Monrith, Monrith, The dark pulls you under! - Historical Children's PoemMonrith Drakewake is perhaps the most famous Dark Elf in Fetti history. But not for great deeds done right, no. More for the great deal of deeds that caused the downfall of the Dark Elven race, and subsqiuentlly getting them outcasted from Kliyax forever. While at one point they ranged across the underbelly of the world all the way to the island of Kliyax and Fetti, where their dark crystal kingdoms shone like perfect beacons of Dhedes might, this singular woman alone many agree caused the Dark Elves to fall from being the Dhedes chosen children, to nothing but another dying out race that is even shunned by their own kind.
[Early Life] Monrith Darkwake's early life is well documented. Monrith was a noble, living in the uscale Dark Elven kingdom in Kliyax sub 1200 years ago. Long before the fall of the elves. Her family believed Monrith was blessed by the moon goddess Nox, as it was said her eyes would twinkle and turn pale like the moon every night before bed. Monrith displayed great magical power from a young age, a noteable occurrence happening when she had managed to teach herself evocation, and then subsequently light the family's stable on fire. The royal riding elks were saved if only from their own heartiness, but the parents were overjoyed to have such a magical individual among their ranks. They enrolled her in tutorships immediately even pre primary school, and used this magical ability she had to entertain many parties. By herfourties (around 9 in human years) she had several prospecting mages who were interested with her studies, and just how she managed to learn magic so quickly.
[Mid Life] By the time she finally broke the threshold, Monrith Drakewake was already being prospected into several higher tier Mage Colleges, including personal invitations to Blackfaire in the Uscon and Yinexian's Spiral within Yinexia. However, none of these letters were to ever reach her interest. Monrith learned from a young age that many would bend to her will should she simply put on an act long enough. They spoiled her rotten through and through. So as prasie and demand for her come further and further inward, she relished in the attention it brought. Several suitors would come forward vying for her hand, but all were turned away by her personally. To be a prestigious noblelady mage back in this time was almost a godly quality in and of itself. Soon enough this upper circle intrigue began to leak down to the lower class. Soon, Monrith could not walk within cities without being hassled for her beauty and her charm. She often would be followed by crowds of up to thirty men and women alike. It was recorded that she cursed out Dorath's name, thinking that perhaps he had cursed her with this annoyance. No reprieve came regardless. Eventually however, Monrith's charms began to effect the people around her as her maturity grew to a supernatural degree. She would ask someone something haphazardly, and instantly they ran to do it. Even so much as leaving her alone was easy to do. She thought, and it is well documented in her preserved journals, that perhaps her voice itself was a tool, a blessing from the divine being Kynox. She was often seen singing to the moon after this revelation. An unknown source of power supposedly slipped into her body, as most individuals in the world at once, for no reason, began to whisper her name out unknowingly. Perhaps it was the doing of a patron.
[Late Life and Death] Towards the end of her life Monrith truly began to abuse her power. Riots within the capital were sprung out at her beckoning request, and in time she asked the most powerful Archmages in the land to construct her a pair of scissors made from Moonstone that could be used to clip the strands that connected magic users to the weave. She believed that her power would only grow if she gained the ability to cut mages off, and she would ascend as a god of sorts among the people. The Amethyst Scissors were created, and upon being placed in her hand, it is said something darker took hold. Her eyes seemed dead, and her heart seemed to empty the last of its contents to the floor. Left right and center she would snip the tethers that gave Mages their magic. Similar to how Visionaries pluck at reality strings. From this massive amount of snippage, she unleashed something horrible onto the world. When reality fractured, and a mage unnaturally destabilized, within a few weeks, they would devolve into a puddle of writhing flesh, and meat. This condition came to be known as The Mana Blight, and would begin to have an effect on the surrounding enviroment. It is for this reason why a section of south east Kliyax is completely segregated from the rest, as Mana Blight still runs rampant as a constant problem thanks to her. Her death came a little over twenty years after this epidemic, at the hands of an unknown warrior who impaled her through the heart as she stood alone in a ruins. Many think it was a suicide by assassins.
[Legacy] As of today, Monrith Darkwake is rarely spoken of among the Dark Elves. Her history was one of the contributing factors to the Dark Elves being exiled from Kliyax to live on Fetti by their lonesome. The other elven inhabitants of Kliyax thinking this unstable race only sought to see destruction in the one homeland they had left. Monrith Darkwake's name is sung about in childrens poems often condeming their bad behavior otherwise 'Monrith will drag them under.'
