Common Riding Drake

The Common Riding Drake is one of the very few non-extinct species of 'Drake.' A Drake is a missing link between Dinosaurs and Dragons from an evolutionary standpoint. They are thought to be the creatures Idayiom, the god of Dragons, used to create what we know today as the High Dragons. However, Common Drakes have still managed to survive to a certain extent.
Common Riding Drakes are short limbed, but have incredibly hard scales. They are considered sturdy, and are used as a common mount within the Underbelly of the World by Dwarves, Elves, and Vampires alike. Takarez has a particular love hate relationship with these creatures, as they have several wild populations of 'riding drakes' that have begun to harass farmsteads. They are considered Vermin in rural Takarez, but populated dense centers like the capital and the port towns still find them a fine mount.
However they are considered quite dumb in comparison to many other mounts, often getting into periods of excitement where they forget most of the world around them. A common expression in the underbelly is to 'follow like a drake' meaning to follow blindly.
