Beliefs of Atcordis
In the most powerful, most advanced, and most prosperous region of Sonatine, Bryntis is known as 'Bryntaris,' as three-syllable names in the language of Atcordis are reserved for gods and royalty, while anyone could possess a one or two-syllable name. Bryntaris is considered a chaotic being whose very nature is to destroy, but she (for in Atcordis she is represented as a woman) is also the symbol of creation and innovation. She is frequently associated with storms, and lightning has been utilized in so many technological breakthroughs in Atcordis that it has become a symbol of inspiration. The be 'struck by inspiration' is a common phrase, and Bryntaris is prayed to by many inventors in hopes of receiving lightning of their own. Artists and innovators who care more for their work than for themselves worship Bryntaris and bring her extravagant offerings, usually of metal, as it attracts lightning. This has led to a few sayings: To 'seek lightning' is to offer to Bryntaris in hopes of inspiration, to 'shed sparks' is to appear excited and engaged in a new project. Bryntaris is, in many ways, a symbol of nature's chaos and danger; as a very advanced region, Atcordis fears her wrath much less than other regions who are more reliant on nature's whims.
Beliefs of Kaldrvik
Kaldrvik, region of treacherous peaks and wild mountain beasts, is one that is incredibly devoted to Bryntis, who is called 'Brynthis' in the region. The Kalders are not, however, worshipful for the same reasons as Atcordians: they fear Brynthis greatly. She symbolizes lightning snow, the rare but terrifying occurrence of the mountains. She is given offerings and a pre-winter ceremony in hopes that her chaotic power will not fall on the people of the mountains. The Kalders dare not ask anything but safety, so strangly, Brynthis has also become a symbol of protection in the area. Lightning flashes brightly enough to lead scalea, the fierce dragons of the night, astray and keep them away from any lights on the ground. Brynthis's association with storms has made her a goddess of protection as well as destruction in Kaldrvik.
Beliefs of Revna
The region with the same name as its largest city is one of marshes, barren woods, and tiny roadside shrines. It is also a region filled with as many thieves and conmen as there are farmers and lumberjacks. A crack of thunder at the right moment can conceal a thief's machinations, and they are in far too much constant danger to fear a god's destruction very much. She is seen as a beneficiary to thieves, and they often offer her portions of any spoils collected during a storm. Revna is, however, a place composed mostly of wood. The capitol city of the same name has almost exclusively wood buildings, as stone quarries are few in the region. Lightning is thus, something extremely scary to the most flammable city in Sonatine. There are storm dances and ceremonies held with every approaching thunderstorm, and it must be working because so far, Revna hasn't burned down thanks to Bryntis's destructive ways. Because of the near-constant rituals held in her honor, she is one of the most widely known gods in Revna. Paper and fabric prayer slips are tied to metal poles during many festivals (outside the city usually, or at the top of the few stone buildings in town) to be fulfilled by her benevolent lightning strike.
Beliefs of Accantha
The jungle region of Sonatine, which is ruled by the huge skypiercer trees, views Brynttia, as they call her, as not a god of storms, but one of rain. Mudslides are a common and deadly occurrence in the region, and it is her destructive downpour that they view as the cause of it. Because of this association she has become the god of vibrant growth, fertility, plants, and healing. Apothecaries and doctors pray to her often, as does anyone in need of a bit of rain (such as farmers, or some herb-gatherers). She is a highly respected and widely worshipped goddess in the area, but is viewed as opposing technology and exploration of the jungle's wilds, a very different perspective than the Atcordians' views of the god.
Beliefs of the Ithbel Coast
The highly diverse and varied coastal cities along the southern edge of Sonatine see Bryntis, or 'Bethyl,' as they call her, as one of the four sea gods. She represents the destruction of the waves, the sharp rocks beneath cliffs, and is blamed for drownings. She is prayed to for preemptive mercy rather than protection. It would be considered unforgivably disrespectful to victims of drowning or boating accidents to ask her for favors or trivial things.
