Freysia

FREYSIAN KINGDOM.

The Freysian Kingdom is the southernmost kingdom existing in the continent of Enduuriah, the other being the Kingdom of Authusia. Most of Freysia's territory lies to the west of the Uriah Mountains, with only a small part of it to the east, where it borders with Freystormia and the Arsychia.   The Freysian Kingdom is currently the greatest nation contained in Enduuriah, extending over 14.6M Km² and about 2.7M people calling it home. The second is Authusia, which beats Freysia's population by 4 million individuals. Freysian land is currently divided between 28 counties and earldoms.   The word "Freysia" means "Marginal" in Caltaiin, and was originally used to define the members of the Abergorii Tribe and the Vetian Tribe, forced by the Caltaiin to take the territories north of the Uriah Mountains. Since the Abergorii submited to the Gria Theocracy, they were rebranded with this name.

HISTORY.

Tribal Period: Since time immemorial, the Enduuriaard Continent has been inhabited by humans, though currently there are only two main explanations as to how they got there exactly. The False History theorizes they made their way from Seentria to the Craftford Island, then to the small islands laying south of the mainland before finally reaching Enduuriah and spreading throughout the land. Tradition of the native peoples, however, dictates that they came from the northeast before spreading, a theory which has been widely discarded as impossible or fabled because such a navigation was not considered to be possible during that time. For this to be feasible, an inland connection with either Fahantia or Seentria would have been needed, and this is considered unreal by most scholars.   The Enduuriard peoples divided into several small tribes that constantly competed with each other for dominance of their territories. Three of the human tribes that formed in Enduuriah, the Abergorii, Caltaiin and Vetians settled in the region that became known as Freysia, fiercely competing with each other due to the inhospitable conditions of the region in which they inhabited. The Caltaiin settled in the in the much more comfortable lands to the west of the Uriah Mountains, forcing the Abergorii and Vetians to compete for the worse parts to the south, where factors like temperature and almost complete absence of food sources made it extremely hard to survive. The Vetians made their way to the east of the Uriah Mountains, and the Abergorii had to find a way to subsist in the conditions they found themselves in.     Dynasty Period: To the northwest, the Caltaiin developed their own power structure and started stylizing themselves as the Gria Theocracy. To the southeast, the Vetians formed the Vetian Empire. The Abergorii, still stuck in their miserable land, were forced to seek resources with the Gria Theocracy - a support which came at the dear price of their religion and a pact of allegiance. Under such pact, they were renamed as Freysians. The new support from the Gria Theocracy allowed the Freysians to focus on matters other than survival, and they tried expanding where the Vetians had gone, but where fiercely repressed by the Vetian Empire they found there.   Colonization Period: The Freysians still coveted the much warmer territories of the Vetian Empire, and made several attempts at carving out these lands for themselves, during the period the Vetian, not knowing about the Freysian rebranding, called the Abergorii Invasions. Seentriaese settlers arrived in the territory of the Vetian Empire around this time, and their expulsion by the Empire gave rise to the Colonization War between the Dawnian United Kingdom and the Vetian Empire. Needless to say, they found important and seasoned allies in the Freysians, who wished to take a part of the Vetian Empire for themselves since they could remember. Once Dawnia won the war, part of the territory to the southeast of the Uriah Mountains was given to the Freysians by the settlers, for their help in the war.   Founding of Freysia: This foothold to the southeast allowed the Freysians to survive by themselves instead of depending on the Gria Theocracy, which had bullied them into submission from the get go. The Gria Theocracy tried to wiggle its way into larger sums of the Freysian resources, but they would not let it stand. It did not help that the founding of the Authusian Kingdom essentially cut out much of the Theocracy's support and resources from the north. The Freysians, supported by the Arsychian Republic, started the Bloody Winter War. While the Freysians managed to do a lot of damage on their own, the defining factor of the war was the betrayal of the Freystormia Parish, made up mostly of Freysians and their descendants, against the Gria Theocracy, which allowed the Freysians to drive the Theocracy out of their lands.   Altieri of Invermaw, an important and seasoned military leader, was chosen as the King for the lands conquered by the Freysians and, thus, the Freysian Kingdom was born. He took hostages from the Gria Theocracy in order to ensure their obedience to the new regime, and rewarded his officials with titles according to their merit and usefulness for the kingdom. The Freystormia Parish was rebranded as the Grand Duchy of Freystormia, with Nichlaus of Freystormia as its first Grand Duke, acting as the newborn Freysian Kingdom's warden against the Gria Theocracy. In the years to come, Nichlaus engaged the weakened Theocracy in a multitude of petty battles, taking more of their territory and expanding their own as they did.

ECONOMY.

Most of the inhabitants of the Freysian Kingdom subsist on the basis of their fishing activities in the Western Sea and raising livestock, while the planting of crops is maintained only as a means of feeding animals due to the poor quality of the soil.   Hunting: The main game species in Freysian territory are the Freysian Moose, the Invermaw Bear and the Mountain Goats. All of them are extremely difficult species to track and hunt, and for this reason, hunting is mainly practiced by nobles or specialized lineages of hunters. At the same time, the sale of their skins is extremely valued in both foreign and domestic trade.   Fishing: Freysia is home to many large rivers, and many of them are home to species endemic to the region, which help support the livelihoods of many of the kingdom's poorest and are also highly valuable in trading with the Grand Duchy of Freystormia, such as the Margentian Bass and the Nersorun Catfish, considered a delicacy. Due to their advantageous positioning on the Outer Ocean and Western Sea, the Freysians are also able to partake in the hunt for the Great Whales and their oil.

MILITARY.

The Freysian army specializes in guerilla tactics and the use of broadswords. They are famous for their high resistance and for their high-quality weapons. Their chain of command is averagely loose, with ranks based on acts of heroism and merit in battle.

"Through struggle we persevered."
