Ventaglio

For women who in many places have no voice, the fan is one of their greatest shields and weapons. This simple object that is so overlooked is capable of hiding a hundred secrets, just as its user.

  • Lady Crestin of Ignia, Mistress to Duke Fleir.
  • Places such as noble courts, brothels and elite markets are home to much intrigue and secrets. In such places the walls have eyes and ears and those who wish to keep their privacy must be innovative.

Ventaglio is a somewhat secret language used by nobles of certain families to communicate, although it's most commonly used by female spies within courts. Its origins stand in spionage as this language has been used as a subtle way to send short messages for centuries and was not designed with long conversations in mind.

It is unknown who created Vertaglio or when specifically it was created, but it is recognized that the court dialect of this language was first introduced by the mistress of a duke who was a former prostitute working as an informant for one of the mayor spy networks of the time.
This dialect is more centered around themes of intrigue and romance and there are a great number of gestures that center around catching the attention of suitors or informing other of ones relationship status.

The atorem dialect is the one used by spies and has a less romantic tone than the court dialect and a somewhat greater variety on gestures and meanings.
