Dungeon-Heart

The Dungeon-Heart is the pinnacle of Varex Illan's research into the alteration and improvement of the Mimic species. In its natural form it appears as a crystalline sphere approximately the size of a pumpkin. In reality, this lattice like structure is an ultra-dense alignment of magical and biological elements which the artificially advanced intelligence of the Dungeon-Heart can unfold and utilize. This allows the Dungeon-Heart to promote rapid cellular divison, metamorphosis and even integration with its surrounding materials. The Dungeon-Heart can thus serve as a sort of Master Mimic, spawning lesser kin.   While less developed Mimics need to physically consume organic materials to absorb their essential energy, the Dungeon-Heart has been hybridized with cells from the nascent World-Turtle Shorewydd. This allows it to absorb energy indirectly, thriving off the emotional aura of sentient life.   In the city of Barrowdale, the Dungeon-Heart was able to escape the unmanned arcane bonds left behind by Varex and begin an instinctual feeding pattern. It integrated itself with the ruins of the Keep structure and began to feed off the second hand energy of the nearby villagers. When this was no longer enough to satisfy its growing appetite it began to remap and populate the dungeon with creatures, traps and treasures, luring in adventurers from around Soma. Their life or death struggles in the ruins proved an excellent source of power and the Dungeon-Heart grew rapidly. With its increased power the Dungeon-Heart was on the verge of fulfilling its ultimate function, successfully creating stable, sentient life. It was only the intervention of a band of Resistance affiliated adventurers that saved the town and returned the Dungeon-Heart to Varex's care.
