Amaranthine Cabal
The Cabal is the leading source for magical education and regulation in The Braelin Empire. Long ago, when the Sun-Sickness Calamity ended and civilization returned to the world above after their exile to the Underdark, arcane magicians roamed wild over the surface world with no care towards any cause but their own. It was only when Vecna began amassing undead armies and power in order to ascend to divinity through lichdom that arcanists across the world banded together to destroy him. In order to keep such evils from occurring again, the Amaranthine Cabal was established to regulate the practitioners of the arcane, and to ensure that responsible practice was emphasized. They currently have members in the courts of most major power centers, and they also oversee the Y’lixra Academy of the Arcane in Goldenharbor.
Leadership
There are eight Departments of Magical Import in the Cabal, each led by an elected Archmage. Though the Amaranthine Archmagi each have their own personal agendas and goals, they rely on each other to dictate their respective policies and mandates. The eight offices of Amaranth include:- The Inquisition of Forbidden Magics
- The Department of Arcane Antiquity
- The Department of Domestic Protections
- The Department of Civic Influence
- The Ministry of the Martial Arcane
- The Department of the Advancement of Arcane Study
- The Office of Extraplanar Study
- The Office of Arcane Regulation and Equity
Location
While the Cabal has free reign to carry out its will in every corner of Braelor, the Cabal's seat of power is The Spire of Amaranth in Golden HarborStructure
The Council of Amaranth is comprised of eight archmages who lead the Departments of Magical Import. The councilmembers meet weekly to discuss and vote on important issues. Tied votes are tabled until there is consensus, and matters of legislation must have unanimous support.
