The Fall of the Sandsong Oasis
All good must come to an end someday. Everyone with a brain and an education in the politics of other Sylvamere could figure that out for the Sandsong Oasis. The two had been stuck in perpetual argument and "war" for more years than any person on Solsticea had been alive. It all came crashing down one night.
King Vortigern the Ironclad of Sylvamere was known by many to be ruthless and power-hungry. He would stop at nothing to gain status and respect from those he deemed less than him. He saw the Sandsong Oasis and the existance of the Inoba threatening to him as an Intasu. He shared these ideals with many of his ancestors, wanting the Inoba gone as to keep them secured in power and status.
Rahim Nasir was the last Rahim of the Sandsong Oasis. There was a thought in the back of his head that it would happen within his lifetime. The day he got the letter officiating the attack, he had been preparing his son, his eldest child, to lead a group of survivors. His son, Malin didn't understand why at the time,Bud understood that something was going on.
Then the night stuck. It was late, far too late for any normal person to be awake. But most people knew. They had heard about tbe letter, some even knew what was in it, and so many people stayed awake that night. Musicians searching for inspiration in silence, children whose parents wouldn't want thdm awake at that hour, and any person who knew.
The army looked like a rising sun, with torches lighting their paths to the oasis. The plan was to burn it. That was their order. Burn the buildings, the boats, the books, and leave no survivors, no matter who they are. Ambush at night, they were told, leave nothing but the lake.
Malin didn't sleep that night, he was too worried about what was possible. When he saw the light bounce into his room, he ran to find his father. His father told him to get his younger sister, grab what he can. Literature, tapestry, materials, whatever. His father wanted him to survive. He was told to hide, leave if he must.
Being the second youngest Inoba, survival was important. His main task after the attack would be to document it, his experience and those around him, if any.
A loud horn was heard, Sylvamere was here and attacking. Homes, schools, market stall all burned up in flames. Al-Nasir created a large boundary shielding what was left, before summoning a smaller one to make a time buyer. Everyone gathered near the Hailad, to find an escape. That was the last resort. Escape.
Each person, about thrity to forty people, took as much as they could to perserve Sandsoni culture. The poetry, the books, the history, the tapestry, the Changelets, anything. A second main focus was to protect the Inobas, Malin and his sister.
<<Father, what about you?>> Malin asked.
<I'll stay here for now, I will find you if I survive.> He responded.
<<You will, right?>>
<...I will.>
The walls came down eventually, but those who could escaped. Al-Nasir stayed put, facing Ironclad himself, even if he knew he would die.
"Well, if it isn't the Inoba." Ironclad taunted, "Where are you children, have you buried them already? Dug their graves for me?"
<<<I will reveal none of that information to you, Ironclad.>>> Al-Nasir answered, smiling as always.
"Hm, I hope you realize what day it is, Rahim Nasir."
<<<I'm aware. This is the day my oasis falls, I presume?>>>
"Correct. Prepare to die."
Vortigern the Ironclad leaped forward at the Rahim to attack, which he dodged narrowly, leaving a scratch on his shoulder. He made a promise to his son, and he hoped he could keep it.
After a long winded fight, Vortigern came up from it victorious. The Rahim was dead, and if he found his children, all Inoba would be gone.
But he never found Nasir's children, They escaped put of the Adriex and into the Intera, keeping as far away as they could from Sylvan borders.
As they traveled, someone suggested they change their names, making it harder for other people to identify them. They agreed, Malin changing his name to Salinto, and his sister changing hers to Safina, although there are no records of what her name was previously.
These survivors travelled through Intera for years, everyone thinks there wereno survivors, as no one could find them, but they settled in the south of Intera.
