Magic
Magic permeates everything in the world. Every blade of grass, every rock, every piece of earth, every animal and every person has magical energy flowing through them. With enough training everyone is able to learn to manipulate the magic inside their body and use it to enhance their abilities. Those enhancments can improve the person's strength, endurance and even their mental capabilities.
Very few people in the world have the natural ability to control and manipulate magical energy not only in themselves, but also in other things. Those are the so called mages. Their rarity makes them valueable assets to the people they work for. However, most of the mages live alone, away from other people. This is the only way that they can be fully free.
