Aura

"Aura. Note: the foodstuffs of us Daemon. Material type: metaphysical. Place of origin: life. Replicability: innate. Details: due to our highly-attuned body towards the elements, we don't process regular food as well as Humans, or other creatures for that matter. We eat their Auras, or the strong radiation exuded from a creature due to their emotional state."
---Scientific journal of Origin-Name Ye'di'ng, Located in the National Library

Properties

Physical & Chemical Properties

Aura is only visually detectable to those who have ultraviolet vision cones, and is therefore mostly felt, not seen, by most creatures. Daemon typically have thems, so they can judge an Aura's strength and so-called "flavor".

Origin & Source

Aura is self-contained in all creatures, though the emissions are ultimately dependent on the creature. Sealife is the least associated with Aura, as they seem the least emotive of all creatures, next to plants, which lack a true consciousness altogether.

Interestingly-enough, pregnant Humans are associated with Aura the most, as pregnant people usually "glow"; as such, humans are well-known for their strong emotions, and are a Daemon's main target for Feeding. Daemon separate a human's Feedable Auras into 7 types, known to them as the Rites of Human Corruption.

The Rites of Human Corruption are Lust, Wrath, Sloth, Greed, Envy, Pride, and Gluttony. These Rites were put into place by The Council as soon as they settled within Typhon's Teeth, known back then as the Isle of Tenebris; this was to warn the Daemonic peoples of humanity's fury.

The 7 Rites of Human Corruption

The first of the Seven Rites that were put into place were Wrath, Greed, and Pride, as they were seen to be the most dangerous. Coincidentally, these Rites are what Humans tie to Daemon in the current day, as they see Daemon as manifestations of human sins, not as a living people.

The Rite that quickly followed was Lust, as there was a large association with the Rite to the local businesses of humans: most notably, adult bars. This Rite is seen as the simplest Rite to exploit; consequently, this became associated with the Daemon as well, via the terms Incubus, Succubus, and Concubus.

The last three Rites are what Daemon deem as exclusively-human traits: Envy, Sloth, and Gluttony.

Envy, the thought that everything must be taken, and its subset Jealousy, the fear that everything will be taken from you, is the most normalized Rite. Sloth, the idea that things need not be done, and its subset Rebellion, the belief that everything must be challenged, is a Rite most associated with their youth. Gluttony, the concept of wasteful overconsumption, is a Rite most associated with the wealthiest of Human societies.

The 7 Rites need not be contained within each other: rather, all seven of them are loosely tied to one another. Here are a few examples: Greed can lead to Gluttony if one is not sated. Lust can be associated with Sloth-- rather, its subset Rebellion-- if a society deems casual sex immoral, despite the conflicting nature of its advertisements.
