Human

"Humans are in here, yes. You might find it funny that they are included, but they were instrumental in many horrible things, The Great War included. When we read about how the other sentient races look at us, well... they see us as alien. We might actually be alien to this world, but no science has gone into proving that as explicitly true or false."
---Carmo Alvarez, 'Beyond the Wall: An Architectural Approach to Ancient Civilizations'

Basic Information

Anatomy

Human anatomy is typical of a modern-day sentient body plan: two arms, two legs, bipedal, and an upright spine. They possess a fully-plantigrade leg plan, and, curiously enough, have an uneven distribution of integument on the full surface of their body, excluding the palms of both foot and hand.

Unlike most of the other sentient races, they seem to lack the presence of a subrace. Some may have slightly different resistances to the elements, or have differing morphology in the terms of coloration and average body growth, but it is not distinct enough to classify them as separate.

Growth Rate & Stages

Humans have a relatively slow growth rate compared to other sentients. Their young is ultimately defenseless until the age of 3, and they hit puberty around 13 years of age. Many of them stop growing at the age of 18, so that age is when they're considered adults, but some humans stop growing at the age of 21.   Human bodies start to degress when they reach the age of 45, their integument growth slowing and greying out, their skin wrinkling and spotting, and their bone density destabilizing. This happens gradually, and most humans don't start to have all of these characteristics until they are in their 70s.   Their mental growth rate is also slow compared to other sentients, and it only slows further after the integral age of 5 years. It is said that it is due to the fact that humans are structurally incapable of gestating their young to the fullest extent, so they are born early. Unfortunately, as they are not marsupials, human newborns are vulnerable to temperature, the environment, and predators.

Ecology and Habitats

Humans are a hardy species, being overly adaptable to the point of being able to exist in the harsh cold of the north and the blistering heat of the south. They usually do this through inventions, such as thermo-regulating clothing, and central heat and air conditioning.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Humans have an overly-complex digestive system, allowing them to digest a large variety of foods that would otherwise sicken or kill other sentients. As such, the main minerals they need in order to survive are readily obtainable to them: meat and bio-meat for iron, omega-3s, and 6s, plants for vitamins and fiber, and water for the easy breakdown of the former two foods.   Consequently, due to their overabundance of technology, humans have a harder time digesting natural foodstuffs, which some speculate to be due to the fact that their bodies are incompatible with this planet's fauna and flora. An easier to digest explanation is that natural-grown foodstuffs contain trace amounts of ziel, or crystallized elemental material, in them, which seems to resist digestion.

Additional Information

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Interestingly enough, humans' native land is known to be on the great landmass; more specifically, their origin is located at the previously-floating city-state of Azalea. Before the Great War, their distribution was as far and wide as the landmass itself; when the Great War ended, many escaped the apocalyptic aftermath for the east, where they've been living for about a few millennia.

Average Intelligence

Humans boast high degrees of intelligence, not because they can learn informations at incredible speeds like the Daemon, or have psychological powers, but because they have access to technologies several decades (and even centuries) in the making due to undergoing collaborative efforts between them. Their hardiness is built through this idea of comraderie, not due to any physical adaptions.   This, unfortunately, makes them incredibly dangerous in numbers. Those who "boast high intelligence" typically are cruel megalomaniacs, whose usage of charisma can turn an entire country's worth of people onto their side. The high likelihood of power abuse has been the driving force that's caused a large outcrop of resistance groups in human civilizations; as the public becomes more aware of the extant sentients on the planet, their membership numbers may grow exponentially.
