A Yuan-Ti sits across the bar, lounged in a torn booth surrounded by leather-clad bandits, her glowing yellow eyes peer out from under a worn cowboy hat, narrowing as she glances around the room. The group are pirates, there no doubt about that, and would be a rewarding endeavor for any bounty hunter looking for a payday; but also, a death sentence to anyone who dares lay a finger on the crew of Captain Octavia Salvadore, The Vaquero.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Octavia is a lean, tall, and muscular Yuan-Ti with a rattlesnake pattern. Her skin is dusted with freckles and dotted with scars. Evidence of childhood malnutrition presents itself as stretch marks along her hips and chest; the outline of her collarbone and ribs is visible through her skin. She has a serpentine body with bands of browns and blacks resembling a rattlesnake.

Body Features

As a Yuan-Ti, Octavia shares many physical features with snakes, namely the rattlesnake. Her eyes are a golden yellow with dark, snake-like slits. She has large, retractable fangs that can spray a potent poison. The most obvious feature of her heritage is the snakelike tail that replaces her legs. The scales are a range of browns with diamond-shaped bands of black. She has patches of scales along her shoulders and knuckles as well.

Facial Features

Octavia's features are gaunt and scarred with large golden eyes that seem to glow in low light and heavy bags hang under her eyes. Her cheeks are dusted with dark freckles and patches of brown scales and her nose is slightly crooked from being broken so many times.

Apparel & Accessories

Octavia 'Vaquero' Salvadore dresses as her name nickname suggests; in old western garb. She wears a worn leather cowboy hat that has a feather stuck into her side. Her chest is covered in a lavender button-up shirt with a high collar; a navy leather vest is buttoned over it. On top of it is a leather duster that matches her hat. A loose belt hangs from her waist; A leather holster and a whip are strapped to the leather. Her hands are covered in these navy fingerless gloves; the Jolly Roger of the Saddleside Pirates is embroidered onto the palm of each glove. She has two piercings on each ear; one in the standard location and one on the upper lobe. The upper lobe has a slightly tarnished gold stud while the standard has a thick golden hoop.

Personal history

Octavia was born on November 23rd to Eva Salvadore; a single mother who works in the local tavern.
During her childhood, Octavia witnessed countless injustices committed by the Federation and admired those who stood against them. This mindset is what drew her towards the Brass Dogs; a rebellion that operates all across Torrid. She joined when she was 12 as a smuggler. 
When Octavia's bounty hit 10,000 gold the marines conducted a raid on her home and took her siblings and mother into custody. A month passed before Octavia and a few other members of the Brass Dogs were able to locate and attack the camp where her family and other citizens were being held. It was during this time that Octavia discovered her sister Estella, her brother Edgar, and her mother had been killed by the marines. She also discovered that her twin Oliver and her little sister Lucia had joined the marines as recruits. She was 14 at this time.
Despite the guilt, Octavia continued to fight for the Brass Dogs; carrying out missions and smuggling goods between cities. On one particular mission, she was in a shootout with a handful of marines; after it had ended she realized that one of those marines was her little sister Lucia. Octavia was 20 at this time, and her sister was 17.

Mental Trauma

Malnutrition. Growing up, Octavia and her siblings never had enough to eat. She remedied this by allowing her younger siblings to eat before her. Octavia would eat whatever was left; which was not much. Even now she does the same; allowing her crew to eat before her. 
Guilt. Due to Octavia's involvement with The Brass Dogs, a majority of her family was killed. This fact continues to haunt her and guide her every action.
Loneliness. With her family gone, Octavia had very few people she could trust, and not wanting the ones that are left to get hurt, she abandoned them. For almost seven years Octavia was alone.

Aisling Owens. Her childhood friend and her first mate. 
Herman Steele. While Octavia does not have a formal alliance with the Clockwork Pirates, Octavia sympathizes with the Captain and shares many ambitions with Steele; his drive to protect his crew and avenge his family has earned Octavia's respect. While they may not see eye-to-eye on how to deal with certain issues, the pair has shared many drinks in port taverns. 
Aldous Lux and Jessie Collier. Aldous Lux is the owner of Lux's bar in Bleakwater. When Octavia was a child her mother worked at Lux's and during her shifts, she would stay in the back room of the bar. This is where she met Jessie, who was in a similar situation, and they grew close.

Sewing. Octavia first learned how to sew when she was young; she would often patch up her siblings' clothes and even make new cloaks and jackets for them out of old blankets during the colder months. This hobby led her into leatherworking; all of the clothes that Octavia wears are made by her. 
Cooking. Octavia adores cooking for her crew; she's a master of one-pot dishes such as risottos and stews. Despite this love of cooking, she still struggled with her relationship with food.

Octavia and her crew are in possession of thousands of gold worth of treasure and therefore are able to live a fairly comfortable life; they can afford food, nice clothing, jewelry, and other expenses. However, unlike other pirate crews Octavia does not like to flaunt their wealth; instead pushing her crew to live a more frugal lifestyle. 
Their ship, the Copper Whistle is worth around 50,000 gold. The moonstone figurehead is worth around 10,000 by itself. 
Octavia's Bounty is currently set at 45,000 gold, and her crew is worth over 200,000 gold.

Honorary & Occupational Titles

The Omen of Sand (former). During her early twenties, Octavia was one of four vice-captains of the Brass Dogs. She maintained control over the Tecumhurst Desert until she had a falling out with the Captain; and thought it best to leave the rebellion and the planet. 
The Vaquero (former). In the years between being a key leader in the Brass Dogs and starting her Pirate crew, Octavia drifted around the Epsilon Quadrant as a mercenary. People dubbed her "The Vaquero" for her clothes and attitude; it was intended to be derogatory but Octavia embraced the name, and still uses the nickname today. 
Captain Octavia Salvadore (current). Octavia is currently captain of the Saddlieside Pirates and has fearlessly led her crew through countless endeavors. She is considered one of the Magnetars.

Known Languages

Octavia's first language is Common. Her mother and siblings spoke it as well as most of the other people she grew up with.
When she reconnected with her father he taught her Abyssal. He had deemed it necessary that she do so to connect her with her Yuan-Ti heritage. Octavia never learned how to speak this language, but she can understand enough to communicate.
Octavia had to converse with the residents of the Tecumhurst Desert as part of her position as Omen of Sand. To converse with the birdfolk in the reaches of the Tecumhurst Peaks she learned Aarakocra. She struggled with the harsh clicks and whistles of this language; most of the forms her mouth needed to make would trigger her fangs.
To converse with the Air Genasi of the High Sands she learned Auran. Octavia struggled with this language as well; but only because the breathy, relaxed sounds were hard to make with the constant grimace she wore.
Finally, to converse with the various lizardfolk and dragons around the area she learned Draconic. This language contains harsh sounds and hisses that come naturally to Octavia.
