The Wyrding Post
The Wyrding Post
“Sleep light, speak soft, keep your steel close.”Type: Inn & Wayhouse Location: North side of Caerhollow, just west of Rockblood House The Wyrding Post is the oldest still-operating inn in Caerhollow, founded during the early boom years when the town’s population swelled beyond control. It’s a squat, timber-framed structure with a sagging roof and smoke-stained walls, wedged near the cliffside road where the first prospectors entered town. Atmosphere: Damp stone hearths, drafty rafters, and beds stuffed with rushes. Candles burn low and always smell faintly of tallow. A carved post of twisted wood sits beside the bar, etched with strange runes that no one in town admits to understanding. Reputation: Cheap, quiet, and a little strange. Locals avoid it when they can, calling it “the witch’s den.” Travelers swear by its discretion. It’s known for renting to folk who ask few questions and arrive after dusk. Owner: Síomha Wren – A wiry woman with streaks of white in her black hair and sharp green eyes. She speaks little, brews her own bitter mead, and keeps a crow named Dirge who watches from the beams above the hearth. Some say she was once a Vikti herself, though she denies it. Services: • Private Rooms: 5 sp per night. Locked doors, no questions. • Common Loft: 1 sp to sleep among the crates and bales upstairs. • Mead & Root Stew: 2 cp for a bowl, but only fools ask what’s in it. • “Quiet Deal” Room: Back room used by smugglers, lovers, and worse. Available if you know the code: knock, pause, knock twice. Notable Events: Caldus stayed here for three days before disappearing into the mines. Locals recall seeing him speaking with Síomha in the back courtyard late at night.
