The Outside World

The Outside World is the colloquial name for the Prime Material Plane and home to mortal life. While a large swathe of the planet is uninhabitable by those mortals, a vast and diverse array of life still continues on at the planet's north pole in a bubble colony called Solace. The World's surface layer is formed of several slowly moving tectonic plates, which interact to produce mountain ranges, volcanoes, and earthquakes. Its liquid outer core generates the magnetic field that shapes the magnetosphere, deflecting destructive solar winds and other Astral phenomena.   The atmosphere consists mostly of nitrogen and oxygen. Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere like carbon dioxide (CO2) trap nearly 60% of the energy from the Sun close to the surface, heating it to unlivable temperatures. Water vapor is widely present in the atmosphere and forms clouds that cover most of the planet, and sometimes stay in a permanent cloud state due to heat. More solar energy is received by tropical regions than polar regions and is redistributed by atmospheric and ocean circulation, which allows Solace to more easily regulate its temperature. In most areas, severe weather, such as tropical cyclones, thunderstorms, and heat waves, occur constantly and greatly impacts what remains of the ecosystem.
