Martian Campaign - Lunar Revolution

The Martian Campaign or Martian Theater of the Lunar Revolutionary War refers to the series of battles fought between the Unites Nations of Earth and the colonial speratist precursors to the Democratic Parliament of Luna. These engagments happened both in orbit and the ground habitats of Mars, and claimed the lives of more than 14,000 civilians over the two year time period.

The Conflict

Prelude

After the attack on Xanthe Outpost, Lunar forces captured the garrisoned Earthen troops. The newly self-described government of Luna offered to release the prisoners once all Earthen forces had left the Martian surface and the blockade had been lifted. Earth responded by bolstering their forces at Phobos increasing the number of ships in orbit.

Deployment

Sent addition 200,000 troops from Earth to Phobos, with 10,000 being immediatly sent to the Martian surface to lock down the colonies of Hellirinn and Noctis.
Lunar forces pull back into the strongholds of thier training centers.

The Engagement

Surface

Once reinforced on the surface, Martian soldiers began assaulting lunar training centers in the colonies of Hellirinn and Noctis, pinning the Lunar forces into their fortified centers. The remaining forces locked down the colonies and set up defensive garrisons. Martian militias fought back against the Earthen security forces, but soon found themselves in a similar stalemate as the Lunar forces. By the end of 2362 all of Lunar ground forces had been subdued or fought into deep enough holes to no longer be effectual, giving early thoughts of victory for Earth.
In early 2363 a Martian cell calling themselves the 'Red Children' began attacking UNE landing shuttles with surface to air weaponry stolen from a UNE outpost.

Orbit

The first salvos of the series of ship battles in Mars orbit were fired from UNE ships against Lunar ships on the surface. In response Lunar ships in orbit fired against the missiles, giving unwritten permission for the UNE ships to engage. To opening weeks of the war saw heavy UNE domination of Martian air space. However as the war dragged on Earthen ships started showing their wear, and the new ships created out in the belt arrived to reinforce their Lunar comrades. This caused a swing in control of the orbital space and Earth sent an armada of thirty more ships to bolster their numbers; this wouldn't be enough though, in the previous years Luna had built an additional fifty-five ships, more than doubling their anticipated pre-war capacity.
