Arzekiel

Lord Arzekiel

Physical Description

Body Features

Arzekiel's skin is haunting white, the blue ghosts of veins crawling under his translucent, pale skin. His teeth are black, and his bald head bears long lines, more scarring than age. His fiery eyes are yellow and red, the inner corona flecked with a dull gold. He has no eyebrows, nor any body hair to speak of.   His arms are marked with his power, the skin looking mildly flaky and cracked from the elbows, driving downwards to deep charcoal grooves and plates, rife with the stench of burning flesh. The cracks themselves glimmer with red light, conforming to smooth lines tracing patterns across his hands and fingers.   Arzekiel's hands are both fused with artifacts known as Convergers - ancient weapons that focus energy from the wearer into a raw, pure energy form that can be easily manipulated, producing potent effects from even basic use of energy.

Special abilities

Arzekiel's powers are virtually limitless, taking from the power of belief in him as a god from all over the realms as well as having knowledge of various forms of magic. His rule of the Spire allows him to manipulate the education of his subjects - affecting the strength of those who believe in him and creating as many followers as possible right from birth, further cementing his place as a central power in the known realms.

Apparel & Accessories

Covering his body, and often his head, are the tattered and age-worn robes of an ancient priesthood, the black silken cloth lined with rich, deep reds faded with time, once emblazoned with fine gold lace.

Specialized Equipment

One Converger fused with each hand.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Arzekiel was raised by an order of priests on a distant island, far from the Spire and the main continent, in the southernmost island-realm of Paradeen. Born as a foot soldier for the mage-armies, he was trained in the arcane magics and weaponry.   In his late teen years, he was used as a fighter in the mage army, fighting among other island nations for territory. These wars later escalated to become the Paladin Wars. Arzekiel is a survivor of these wars, one of few who can declare himself of Enlightenment origins. He rose to power as Lord of Spire at the end of the Dark Age.   His age stands at over a thousand, his position as a god at just over nine hundred. His power is considered insurmountable to most nations, and though (in the eyes of most people) he has risen to the power of a god, he hides the fact that his powers are only a fraction of the might that existed in men during the Age of Enlightenment.   He sees humankind as weak, but refuses to impart his knowledge of Enlightenment magics to new generations.   Over the ages, many defied his power, and battles quickly followed. The closest match to his realm's strength was seen around the time of the Battle of Catherine (less than a century after taking control of the Spire), where the human armies of Thronehouse lost a pivotal land battle in the Catherine Valley. Arzekiel faced the might of a modern-age paladin legion, their combined powers halting his advance for weeks. Culminating in the Battle of Catherine itself, Arzekiel lead the Thornbarge army to victory by using deceptive methods to undermine the strength of the enemy, including portraying himself as a true god.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

His intentions are not purely for self promotion and personal gains. His methods are often through means that correspond to the wants of 'his' people. He puts on displays and festivities, builds wells where water is needed, monuments where people request them. He uses his own money to pay for schools, buildings and places of education, and funds the construction of almost all temples. His needs are for the good of the people, in order to maintain the good of himself. He exudes a genuine nature because he is genuine, though his greed is the primary element of anything he does. He's willing to do what is necessary to maintain his respect from his people, and will visit even small towns on pilgrimages if he feels this will influence his sway over them.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Arzekiel is an extremely adept strategist, able to plan moves for the country and himself years in advance.

Virtues & Personality perks

Patient and outwardly kind.

Vices & Personality flaws

Believes most enlightened races to be utterly beneath him, despite his desire to help the common populace.

Social

Religious Views

Arzekiel portrays himself as a god, and has done so for just shy of a millennium. After all these years of worship, it's perfectly plausible to consider his divinity valid.

History

This partnership began just over 800 years ago, after the Battle of Catherine, where Xavier first witnessed Arzekiel's power. Noting that he appeared to be Xavier's equal, not to mention also seeking power, Xavier approached Arzekiel and the deal was struck to become gods and rule together.

Relationship Reasoning

It is a relationship of both trust and convenience. Together, they guide the realm to a better future while solidifying their own positions are gods.

Shared Secrets

Many secrets are shared between the two, from the fact that they are not true gods, right down to how their magical icons work and how children are indoctrinated into the 'faith' at a young age.

Wealth & Financial state

Exceedingly wealthy, though at his position of power, wealth and gold has little sway over what is and what isn't achievable. What doesn't require money to achieve is well within the boundaries of creation magic, and what does is easily paid for from the Spire's vast coffers - or more magic.
