The Divine Gate and the Book

Before the divine gate was created, before the Gods were created, even before the world was created, there were dragons and there were eldritch horrors. When the Dragons got tired of flying they created something they could land and sleep on, thus, they called it land, and so the world was created. While both dragons and eldritch horrors existed within proximity of each other, they did not bother or interact with the other. 
But the Dragons were creative creatures, once they had land, they created races to populate it. But before long, the creatures the dragons had invented began engaging in warfare, and not long after, they created Gods to lead them. 
While the creation of the races did not interest the Eldritch horrors, the creation of the Gods did. The Gods were as powerful as the dragons, but unlike the dragons, the Gods had similar desires to the mortals, that of power and pride. The eldritch horrors feared that the Gods would destroy them, so they attempted the kill or convert them. Nether worked. 
Before long, a war between the Gods and the Eldritch horrors raged. The dragons, determined to not get involved, were called upon by their creations, they said, "If you do not help, they will kill our Gods then come and kill us. Do you not love us, your own creations?" The Dragons joined the fight, and tipped the scale in favour of the Gods. 
When the war was over, the Gods were victorious. The eldritch horrors, beaten and bloody, were locked behind the Divine Gate, banishing them from the plane of existence. 
Eventually, the Gods and their makers turned against the dragons, killing almost all of their kind. 
Recently, the Eldritch horrors have been manipulating events in the world to cause the destruction of the Divine Gate, through a diary written by a wizard who understood a bit too much.
