Birth Tradition - Val Royeaux

Traditionally, subsequent to the birthing, the mother drinks a sweet beverage made of cinnamon, sugar, and red food colouring. It is believed to sooth and bring back energy, as well as bring blessings from the powers of the universe. 
On the next 7th, 14th, or 21st of the month, an animal is sacrificed and shortly bathed in the blood of the animal, symbolizing the purity of the newborn.
