The Al-Paiin

The 'Al-paiin', or 'Alpine' are the peoples that inhabit the great heights of Valerian's tallest peaks. They are its oldest residents and see the 'Squalls' as a return to form of the world. Though they were 'conquered', the Alpine's remoteness and arguable lack of resources made it difficult to 'develop' as a colony. Because of this, the Al-paiin are a colony only in name. They are talented rangers and commune with spirits as old as their time in the mountain. Their devotion to these spirits, performed in secret, gives them powers of tremendous might when times are harsh.
