The Mysterious Other

(a.k.a. Lee)

Create a character inspired by someone else in the World Anvil community. — #WorldEmberInspired   The Mysterious Other is someone, well, mysterious. No real name is known, but we like to think "Lee" is his real name. Almost nothing is known about him, except that he knows The World extremely well. Every mountain, every river, and every sea you come across he knows. He knows those places so well, you begin to wonder how.   Lee is a private person, but knowing personal things is not exactly needed for this journey. if he wishes to not speak about his private life I and my traveling partners will abide by his wishes. But from what we can gather from a spattering of conversations is he's passionate. He is polite and will always refuse someone gently or accept them with great enthusiasm.   Even if he is a bit cryptic about the things he knows, he is loved and accepted in this journey my friends and I are going on. Although he does annoy some of them by saying "answers" that don't answer the question. I find he loves doing that.

History

The history of this Mysterious Other is also clouded in mystery, however during a conversation by a calm little lake revealed a little bit more about this elusive Other. When I asked what he enjoyed doing, there was a long stretch of silence, before he finally turned to me and said, "Writing and world building." Lee had the largest grin on his face and his eyes were bright as he started telling me about his world. His characters. He started telling me about his struggles with writing, but his grin never left his face.   Every time he said something about his story I couldn't help, but smile and laugh along with him. Even though I had no idea what he was talking about, I still loved it. He told me about every character in depth. Every plot point. Every minute detail about his magic systems. I smiled along with him as he started to finally get winded. When he was finished he nodded and said, "That's it." Then we both lapsed back into silence   There was one time, where Lee and I were talking. We were just about to pass over a mountain range, but Billy wanted to take a break.

"So," Lee said turning to me, "Why are you here? On this trip, quest, if you will?"

I shrugged, "It's right, I guess. Why?"

He gave a smile, "Well, I'm here because I want to make this world better."

I raised an eyebrow, "Better, huh? Good luck with that."

His smile widened, "Well, I believe mankind can be better, and I know I can make them better. I'll tell stories of people struggling, of death and mourning, of depression and loneliness, of heartache and despair. But I'll also write of joy and happiness, of peace and prosperity. I'll write about the good things." He gave a nod, as if finally deciding that's what he was going to do, and faced the mountain with a strange look of determination.

Reactions and Opinions

From what I can gather Lee had a hard past. I don't know what it was, and I won't ask. I assume he'll tell me when he's ready, but there are times when I'm tempted to sit him down and have an interview with him, where I'll ask every question I've been dying to ask him ever since this journey began.

But I figure that'd be rude, and he probably wouldn't talk to me after that. He barely talks to me in general. But I suppose that's the whole point of being mysterious. The wonder and fear of the unknown. He claims he's not even mysterious that he's an "open book," but as of now, I still know nothing of him.   Billy --

Lee's. . . I guess, he's cool. But I mean, what do you want me to say? I don't really know him. He's kinda cool with the knowledge he's got, but he's also weird. Like he's just weird. Don't really know how to say it. Maybe its these sharp cheekbones and jawline. They almost don't fit the body, but I'm different I suppose. I also don't know him very well, so I don't really talk to him. But he's cool. He knows how to start a fire or something.

  Henry --

I rarely talk to the guy, but sometimes it feels like I'm the only one he trusts. Whenever we talk, he's tells me things that I didn't even ask about. Whether he was depressed or lonely or whatever he was struggling with sometimes he'll just sit down and tell me about it. Not that I don't like talking to the guy, but I feel like the others are better at listening than I am. Like everyone other than me. Seriously. And I just hate to tell the guy, but there's one things that I kinda want to know, where is he from?   He tells me about everything else, but he refuses to speak about specific moments of his past. His parents, his friends, and where he grew up. Not that it's wrong, but everything except that he tells me about. But one thing I know for sure. I'll get the Smart Guy to ask him. I'm sure she can weasel it out of Lee. (And between you and me, I have a feeling there's a little bit of something. Whether Lee will return it is entirely bet-able.)   Adrianna --

So Lee, right? Well, what can I say...I hear a lot of things. After all what's the point of traveling the world if you can't get any gossip? Some say he's a prince, others say he's a Prophet, but honestly a lot of people have never heard of him, which makes sense, especially if he was always this quiet. Sometimes I just like watching him and seeing if he's talks like a prince, seeing if he acts like a Prophet. Although I think he really is just a normal guy, which is kind of disappointing. But it's okay!   Anyways, yes, Lee's fascinating. I feel like I know everything about him, but when he says 'Hi' to me in the morning he feels like a stranger. It's so weird, but in almost a good way. Is that weird?

Yeah, I enjoy her. She asks too many questions though. But I do like listening to her, most of the conversations with her are one sided, but that's okay. Personally, I think she's just nervous about the upcoming quests and challenges. (That is what she's worried about, right?) --- Lee
Billy is weird. First, his way of talking is extremely hard to understand, and I wish he would just talk like a normal person. But I suppose it's just his dialect. I don't really care for him, honestly. Yes, I am aware that sounds extremely harsh. --- Lee
Henry is definitely too quiet. but that's what I like about him. It almost comforts me, like I can trick myself into thinking, "he doesn't talk much he won't spill my secrets." But I'm probably wrong. At least he's a good leader.   --- Lee
Adrianna I definitely don't trust. She's sweet, but I do not appreciate the way she asks people about me behind my back. She seems like a sweet girl, but I do wish she would stop being so overwhelming.   --- Lee
