Anthros are a vague group of species and people that have many characteristics of animals. Unlike
Demihumans which most often only have minor characteristics, anthros are overwhelmingly close to their animal counterparts in appearance.
Diversity
Anthros are as broad and diverse as the animal kingdom itself. Theoretically, the possibilities are near endless. Anthros aren't always purely animal and sometimes have other elements mixed in. Plush Dogs, Beegirls, and Rubber Frogs all have weird traits; but are Anthros at their core.
The most common anthro races tend to be those of small mammals and domesticated pets, although anthros of all types are not uncommon. Anthros tend to be more infrequent compared to demihumans.
Abilities
Anthros tend to have abilities from their respective animal counterparts. For example, a mole girl would likely have amazing digging abilities and wouldn't have great sight on the surface.
Overlap with Furries
The term
Furry often can confuse when used in conjunction with the term anthro. The main difference is that the term furry mostly revolves around the fact that the person is covered with either fur or wool, while anthros mostly focus on the fact that the person has many characteristics of an animal.
A person can be both anthro and a furry, but not all anthros are furries, and not all furries are anthros.
Recognition
Typically individual anthro races aren’t recognized as a whole race unless they either hit a certain population, spread quickly, or are widely recognizable.
Most people identifying as Anthros are from species with non-anthros in their population as well. If a person is seen as an anthro or not can be of subjective views and is rarely fully objective. While some species as a whole are officially seen as Anthro species, there are no clear checklists for what is seen as an anthro and what is not.
How anthros come into existence
There are mainly three different groups of anthros: former animals, transformed humans or born anthros.
Former Animals
The vast majority of cases involving anthros coming into being tends to revolve around an animal coming into contact with the
Pink Mist. They are often the more animalistic in behavior and often have problems with the urban society.
Transformed Humans
The biggest group in the
Queendom of Slimea are transformed humans, either by monster girls like the
Googirls or by the pink mist. They are often the least animalistic ones.
Born Anthros
The third group is rare in Slimea but quite often to find on
Bardor, the born anthros. They are naturally born as anthros and were not transformed into them. Many say that these are the most natural anthros, as they neither behave too much like an animal, nor a human.
