Chi'Kciponn

A dry, acidic planet that continues to house life despite its harsh landscape. Home planet of the Chi'Suut. It is most known for it's incredible rings and inhospitable biomes.

Ecology:

Chi'Kciponn is enormous, but in comparison to other habitable planets the amount of the planet suitable for life is paradoxically small. All known life on Chi'kciponn is found on the narrow strip of dry land that rings around the planet's equator, sitting under the planet's impressive rings. The rest of the planet is covered in a relatively shallow, but highly toxic acid sea. While this sea does freeze at the poles there is no value in trying to settle on frozen poison, so these regions are avoided.   The strip continent, as it is called, has a relatively consistent biome across the length of it. More mountainous sections tend to be colder and home to thriving cave ecosystems, while the windy, flat desert plains that dominate the majority of the continent are home to ecosystems that are notoriously brutal and patient. The fauna of Chi'kciponn have evolved to fight a brutal arms race of camouflage and ambush. Much like plants in poor soil on earth evolve to capture flies, even the stationary life on Chi'kciponn will gladly take the opportunity to snack on anything foolish enough to step close. These desperate ecosystems are relatively fragile, scraping by and what feels like too little food and water at any given time, so it is fortunate for them that the native Chi'suut tend to leave the wild regions to themselves.   The weather of the strip continent is windy and dry. Electric storms are common and a resource valued by the native Chi'suut for the powering of their cities. Perhaps once a cycle, the humidity in the air will increase enough that these storms form into powerful rainstorms. While the rain is lightly acidic, it is still the lifeblood and rejuvenating event that keeps all life on the planet going. A lot of infrastructure on the planet is secondarily focused on storing and preserving this water so that it might be used for the rest of the year. The annual rainstorm is one of the safest times to venture into the wilds as the wildlife will preoccupied with enjoying the rain, though this isn't to say that navigating the suddenly flooded landscape isn't difficult.

History:

Chi'kciponn has been the home planet of the Chi'suut for the entirety of their recorded history. Despite there being no formal records of such a time, ecologists and geologists believe that the planet was not always the acidic, dry rock it's known to be today. Signs of some sort of catacysm are present in the caves and topology of the planet. The Chi'kciponn of the distant past might have been far more lush according to the fossilized life that has been found.
