'Anomaly' is a catch-all term used by the Slidescouts for the unexplained and little-understood phenomena across the galaxy. While the primary goal of our organization is to study Slidespace, it is categorized as an anomaly, albeit a huge one. Studying any other inexplicable phenomena may help us in our search for answers, so some of our resources are dedicated to the research of other, lesser anomalies. This document exists to go over the anomalous occurrences currently under study by our team.
SLIDESPACE
Slidespace is a major temporal-spatial phenomenon that stretches across our galaxy. It is essential to many of our modern-day ways of life, which is why it is of the utmost importance that we try to understand it. Science has come far in being able to calculate movement through slidespace, which allows us to move ships through it with relative safety and accuracy. It's origins, however, are completely unknown to us. Knowing how to use something is not the same as knowing how it works. The Slidescouts find this knowledge disparity to be unacceptable. A majority of our team is dedicated to exploring and documenting this anomaly to the fullest extent.
POCKETS
Pockets are spatial phenomena defined by our organization as areas of "space within space". Much like a pocket on clothing, a space pocket is a discreet area that can be accessed via an opening. Unlike a normal pocket, it's internal space does not match or seem to affect any of the space on the outside of the opening. A door in a small room in space the opened up to a large ocean would be an example of a spatial pocket. Spatial pockets are rare, or at least difficult to find. Either way, only a few instances of this phenomena have been reliably catalogued and studied by our team. Due to their spatial-affecting properties, researchers hope to find commonalities between spatial pockets and slidespace in order to better understand both. Spatial pockets are a high-priority side project for this reason.
UNSOURCED DEBRIS
Our space-faring ways have not left the galaxy devoid of junk or broken bits of ships. Space debris is a common and non-anomalous feature of life among the stars. Not all debris is easily identified, however. Occasionally, our scouting team will come across difficult to identify debris out in distant slidespace. When we are unable to determine the source of makeup of the debris, it is possible that it came from places unknown to us and our colleagues. Most of our finds are sent to our friends at the
Predecessor Historical Society, or given to museums to display. A select few are kept in our own collection, generally only those pieces with anomalous properties. Analyzing debris is a low-priority project, as it is unlikely the debris will bear any findings regarding slidespace.
VISIONS
Not all people believe in the existence of "visions", but the evidence is becoming difficult to deny. After the mass-vision incidents recorded within the Horizon sector, our team has decided to look into this anomalous phenomena. We at the Slidescouts define "visions" as instances of vivid, typically shared, hallucinatory events. Little is known or understood about this phenomenon, despite accounts from those who have claimed to experience them. Those who have experienced visions seem to have no apparent commonality besides having had the vision. If you or a loved one has experienced this phenomenon, we encourage you to contact us at your nearest Slidescout outpost or office.
CORKI PRESENCE
We at the Slidescouts will not be attempting to study the Corki. Every attempt to do so has resulted in zero information gained. We would be remiss to not include them in this listing, however, as much of their existence is anomalous. Their ability to get from place to place with no apparent spacecraft to us would be a great topic of research that may give us insights into slidespace, but it is not in our interest to spend our resources on a useless venture.
