Mental characteristics
Personal history
Reem grew up in Ba'achar, as the daughter of the blacksmiths for Iesha and Omar (the adoptive parents of Carlyn Callen, Venio Brokenleg-Jones and Rally Rookshot-Jones). Her parents immigrated to Ba’achar from the interior of Amon-Khur before she was born.
While Reem hails from a long line of well-established blacksmiths (her mom was runner-up at Smith-Con many years ago), she never showed an ounce of aptitude or interest. She just wants to learn as much about the world around her as possible, and from an early age that meant studying magic. Her parents’ employers graciously allowed her to study with their own childrens’ tutor, despite the prevailing social class norms, and she quickly excelled beyond all expectations.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Reem loves learning! She wistfully daydreams about visiting Ironwind and their famed magic schools (Collegium Arcanum), although she doesn’t truly believe she could hold her own there. Reem could have been at risk of zealotry through the Assemblage of Gilded Edification (e.g. worship through study) if she had had more exposure to them; she likes learning for knowledge’s sake at the detriment of utility sometimes, but she is motivated to use magic for the general betterment of her family, the dwarven people, the world.
Feelings on technology are mixed. Since she loves learning so much she doesn’t see why technology and magic should be at odds, like in traditional Dwarven lands or Valonia. To this end Kalay'ana holds particular interest.
Social
Contacts & Relations
Best friends with Carlyn Callen. Not interested or very capable in smithing, but loves that Carlyn thinks she’s cool for being from a blacksmith family.
While Dwarves outside of Ba’achar have long practiced a druidic nature magic, Reem studies and practices human wizardry. Her parents are proud, but only to a point. They would prefer she focussed on dwarven-style magic, and frankly wouldn’t have minded if she stuck to the family trade in the first place. She wants to show them how her growing knowledge base is good for the family, and for dwarves more broadly.
