Natiria Species in Sky Unbroken | World Anvil

Natiria

The Natiria are a group of beings of mysterious background. They appear mostly Human, though they themselves claim to be older than humans as a species. As a whole, they are rather secretive and mostly isolating with a few exceptions. In general, they live a lot longer than humans, close to 250 years at times. All Natiria have sharp, elongated ears. There are five main varieties with a number of lesser groups. These five forms match the Beltian Elements, as there are Air, Water, Earth, Fire, and Aether Natiria. The common names for each are Aeris, Aquis, Temnis, and Ignis respectively, though there is no known name beyond Aether Natiria for the last variety. All Natiria have some connection to their element, and are capable of controling it to a minute extent. For instance an Aeris might be able to summon a breeze or gust of wind, or a Temnis might be able to move stone and earth

Aeris

As their name implies, the Aeris are masters of the sky and the winds. They are born with wings which they are able to summon and dismiss at will, though they are unable to fully support themselves in the air until reaching full maturity, which is well beyond the age at which they are considered mentally and otherwise physically mature. Before then, they are still capable of using it to generate some lift and glide. Some hard workers are able to take flight earlier on in their life, though it is uncommon. Aeris are somewhat frail and may even seem borderline annorexic to outsiders. They are commonly described as stoic and aloof observers, not keen on meddling in affairs that do not directly involve them.

Aquis

The Aquis are the oceanic form of Natiria. They are capable of breathing both air and water, and are also able to transition between a more terrestrial bipedal build yet keeping webbed fingers, and a more fish like aquatic build which streamlines and allows them to swim faster. Aquis Natiria are strangely the most aggressive of their kin, being warlike and territorial in nature. It is of course not a trait all Aquis share, just a tendency across the population. They commonly revere warriors and strong, active leaders.

Temnis

The Temnis are the earthen Natiria. They commonly live underground and are adapted to it. They have keen eyes and can see even in the low light of the underground. Their skin is mostly either completely white with black hair, or entirely ashen, charcoal black with white hair. Some Temnis have marbling Patten's of black and whites thought they are uncommon. It is seen as an attractive trait. They are able to harden their skin to a crystalline toughness, among some even to the point of resembling diamond, which they can use as tools, weapons, or shields. They are adept at digging and burrowing through rock, preferring to build their cities underground. They are described as generally quiet, polite, and somewhat shy by those who meet them.

Ignis

The Ignis are the most common among the Natiria, being related to the element of fire and heat. They most resemble typical humans, though with slightly reddish brown skin and vibrant red or yellow hair. Other than their pointed ears, they could easily pass off as humans, and they do, commonly living among human populations as one of them. They are resistant to fire and heat, being able to survive and even thrive in the hottest of environments. They are also capable of consuming heat for nourishment, and their body temperature is generally quite high compared to other mammals.

Aether Natiria

Aether Natiria are the most elusive of the lot, which given their element makes sense. They live in the pure Aether in the sky and are able to move through it with no propulsion other than their intent. There are no records of their settlements, or their abilities beyond the fact that they can survive without any sort of atmosphere. Many alleged encounters with them describe them as being dressed in long, flowing robes, which would be impractical in gravity though are graceful and majestic in its absence. Beyond this, few accounts concur on physical descriptions.
