Goliaths

Basic Information

The goliaths are the descendants of the ancient giant like race called the Vorms. The primary defining features of goliaths are their size, exceptional durability, two pairs of arms, the absence of most emotions, and complete inability to feel pain. They stand at 8 to 10 feet tall, and weigh around 400 pounds. Goliaths all have thick skin that ranges in shades of grey from the palest being near white to the darkest being near black. While males tend to have larger hands and feet, females have the broader torso due to their shoulders and hips.

Reproduction

Once impregnated females gestate the young for just short of a year, and while possible, it is rare for them to carry more than one child at a time. Vormkin reach maturity at 20 years of age, and live close to two and a half centuries. It is common pracitce for goliaths to have many children with multiple mates throughout their life.

Culture

Due to the original vorm race's inability to control their emotions, and often violent nature, they were feared, and forced into isolation from the other races. They were pushed into the frozen wastes of the north. Over time, the Vorm people sought to distance themselves from this image by making it unacceptable to have emotions at all. Through selective reproduction, and cultural pressures it eventually led to emotion being completely removed. These descendants of the vorms became known as goliaths. Goliath culture now is very competition based. They base societal standing on what feats an individual can accomplish, and what they accomplish them against. Goliaths often seek out extraordinary lifestyles abroad for their first 100 years of life in order to prove themselves to their people, before returning to finish their life among their own. It is common to find goliaths in dangerous occupations such as bounty hunters, monster slayers, and soldiers for hire due to their physical abilities and lack of any kind of fear. Goliath communities value capability over all else. Each goliath must pull their weight and contribute to the well being of the community. Those who were accomplished in their travels are given the most responsibility back in the tribe, while those that accomplished little, and those that dont live up to their responsibilities are often exiled. The vast majority of the time, a goliath will decide for themself they are unfit for the community and will self exile before any kind of decision has to be made by the community itself. Exile is not always permanent, and there are many tales of goliaths returning to their communities after experiencing more of the world, and being able to handle what they are required to contribute.

Features:

These are the baseline racial features of the average goliath. If you wish to replace one of the following features with another racial feature, talk to your GM. (negative features are typically not replaceable such as the monstrous feature.)
Monstrous
Your unnatural looking physical appearance, large size, and lack of expressed emotion in your behavior, causes many to consider you monstrous. You have advantage on intimidation skill checks, or rolls to frighten people, and disadvantage on other communication linked skill checks. Some people may even consider you a threat on sight.

Four Armed
You can use all four of your arms in all the same ways other races use their arms. You still only have one dominant hand and any non dominant hand penalties stack if using multiple off hands on an item.

Ancestral Stoicism
You do not feel emotions like other races. {You are unable to make insight checks (disadvantage or -10 instead? What about forced insight such as when being lied to, or persuaded?), and effects that would alter your emotions such as charm, or fear do not effect you.
