Masd and Yasn
Light Itself; Source of Virtue - The Infinite Dark; Source of Rot
Masd is the god of Masdayasnism; all the other figures of the religion are the Yazats, the angels of Masd to exert his will on the mortal world. In Masdayasnism, Masd is a being of luminous and incomprehensible nature; a figure of power that cannot exist in the mortal world without shattering it. It is said that all light in the world is simply the distant emanation of Masd's glory, and that the true experience of Him would be incomprehensible to the simple men of this world. Never the less, Masd is said to be a benevolent and loving god - a sublime being who created all the world's good creatures and wishes them to live noble and wonderful existences.
Masd is opposed by a figure that is his dark mirror, Yasn; where Masd is incomprehensible light and glory, Yasn is an infinite abyss of darkness and corruption. Yasn is said to be a hateful and malevolent entity, one that wishes to spoil Masd's every work. Where Masd is the source of all that is pure and noble in the heart, Yasn is the source of all that tempts and corrupts.
In Masdayasnism, the two deities are expected to one day come to battle with each other; it is in this future that the true fate of everything will be decided. The soul, in Masdayasnism, is a mote of power that, if kept pure and honest, will return to Masd, and if allowed to become corrupted, will instead be stolen by Yasn. When the two come to blows, it is believed that the god with more souls will be the victor in the battle; as such, it is the responsibility of each and every person to guard themselves against the evils of Yasn, and to stay dedicated to the tenets of Masd.
