History of the Crab Lands

This is a collection of rough time periods in Aelphias, Vishkanya, and Crab Lands history. Due to both culture's lack of writing and tradition of oral storytelling, years on this timeline may be off by up to 15 years until their first bloody contact with Goldscape.

    Aelphias and Vishkanya fight in skirmishes.
    Military: War

    Perhaps the longest history of sustained fighting in all of Sinstram, the Aelphias Crabland tribes and Vishkanya tribes fought for multiple millennium, constantly razing, destroying, relocating and restarting their civilization. It's possible that over 5,000 unique tribes were lost on either side as survivors fled battles to join other tribes, or weaker tribes gathered together to make a new, stronger one.

    Aelphias Flee their Home Islands
    Life, Relocation

    With the taming of a Hydra, the Vishkanya force the Aelphias tribes to flee the major islands of the Crab Lands, splitting into Western and Eastern Tribes, separated by Vishkanya-controlled lands and waters.

    Western Aelphias discover a Pirate Outpost.
    Discovery, Exploration

    When doing regular tasks like foraging and scouting, western Aelphias tribes discover a newly constructed pirate outpost used as a resting place and illicit trading spot for Raftgown and Goldscape. After spending nearly a decade secretly observing the outpost, the weapons, and the massive sea-faring vessels, the Aelphias were discovered by a pirate expedition team searching the island for resources.

    Western Aelphias tribes engage Esemeray Pirates.
    Military: Battle

    Western Aelphias are discovered by startled pirates originating from Goldscape, and destroy the pirate fort, ship, and all but one of the crew temporarily resting at the outpost. A single survivor manages to make it back to Goldscape, and informs them of the newly discovered plant people.   The Aelphias use the newly acquired firearms as blueprints for their own weaponry and crude firearms.

    Irregular Skirmishes with Pirates
    Military: Skirmish

    After discovering the western Aelphias tribes, pirates from Goldscape and Drafts attempt to set up new outposts for resupply and repairs, but are regularly attacked by the western Aelphias, resulting in mixed results and growing amosity between the two groups.   Unwittlingly, they also provided Aelphias with more firearms and ship designs to copy and adapt to their available resources and skills.

    Western Aelphias create their first Firearm.
    Scientific achievement

    Western Aelphias tribes discover a type of slug native to the Crab Lands that eats poisonous plants and excretes a gunpowder-like propellant that is then used for firearms. These firearms typically being magically enhanced wood, vines, and even hollowed-out logs, that fire large rocks, coconuts, and loose flint.

    Eastern Aelphias Respond
    Political event

    Eastern Aelphias lay out a decree exiling all western Aelphias and foreigners from their small collection of eastern islands, promising to respond with violence to any trespassers due to their defilement of nature, arcane magic, and new weaponry.

    Haven discovers Aelphias.
    Expedition

    Haven, curious about their rival cities' regular trips to an unknown western location trails a pirate ship, and discovers the Crab Lands and the Aelphias. Haven begins attempting to make peace with the western tribes.

    Haven Makes Peace with Western Tribes
    Political event

    Haven, the capital of Goldscape formally makes peace with western Aelphias tribes and helps mitigate pirate activity in the area with the help of a cleric and paladin of The All Mother. An informal trade agreement is made between the western tribes and Goldscape.

    Trade Begins Increasing
    Financial Event

    Goldscape begins sending regular trade ships to the western Crab Lands tribes compared to the previous decade, as they discover the tribes have access to unique and cheaper dyes, alchemical ingredients, and a special type of whiskey their slugs slime can produce.

    Luraid Discovers Aelphias
    Discovery, Exploration

    Luraid, curious of Goldscape's quickly growing economy and exotic goods, investigates their trade routes and discover the Crab Lands, sending out expedition crews to make contact.

    Luraid begins Island Explorations
    Expedition

    Luraid cements a professional relationship with the western Aelphias, and begins to explore the island chain with their blessing and advice on dealing with the monstrous snake natives. Luraid begins to fully map the islands and discover ruins, magical areas of interest, and old religious structures which increases interest and frequency of expeditions.

    Western Aelphias become Gunsmiths
    Cultural event

    Western Aelphias have begun to create novel firearms and begin to export them in exchange for other technological or arcane goods.

    Western Aelphias Explore
    Expedition

    With new regular shipments of refined metals and other goods not available to the Crablands, Western Aelphias begin to regularly produce sea worthy vessels and send crews to explore Sinstram.

    Western Aelphias crews meet and ally with Malward natives, and create ships that can go below and rise above the ocean surface whenever they wish, creating the legends of "Sea Reef Skeleton Ships".
