Khaleed (kah-leed)

Goddess of Deserts, Culture, and Exploration

Origin

One morning, after laying in the freezing moonlight of the desert, just to bake in the following sunrise, a dying traveler laid among the gold and red sands of Go'Danro when suddenly a shadow blocked his vision. A strange woman with olive skin and a head of stunning crimson hair, held out a canteen made of a beast's bladder. He reached for it, but his strength faltered, not even allowing him to touch the container full of what he needed to survive. She gave him a gentle pitying smile as she kneeled down and lifted his mouth to the water. He drank greedily through cracked lips, and coughed. After a moment passed, he rubbed the sand out of his eyes to see her more clearly. Scattered among her skin, like stars in a night sky, he saw faint glitters that seemed to catch the sun in the same way as the sands during a spectacular sunset. Khaleed lifted the man to his feet, and produced a large umbrella made of red paper, engraved in gold on it, a Phoenix, wings out and wrapping the edges.

Places of Worship

Khaleed has no permanent structures of worship, and as such has no temples. Her shrines, however, are modest, and easy to transport. Often set up in the back of carts, or within traveler's tents, a small stand with a silver bowl depicting her follower's symbol is placed, and incense are burned within.

Followers

Khaleed is often said to be most fond of those who dare to seek out new and unexplored places. Treasure hunters, adventurers, and even a curious youth exploring his city for the first time all can be touched by her grace. Small sayings and prayers often ask for her guidance or to have her lead the way on future travel, seeing it as a sign of both good luck, protection, and companionship.
