The Grunaga Empire

Cities

Here we will show the maps of the kingdoms, duchies and lands throughout each of the ages.

Cloud City of Grunaga

Known as the capital city of all the many large cloud nations. The city of Grunaga or as it was stated historically as the City of Paradise. Was well known for being the only city not to move, managing to float mostly over the lands of Drafika in the southern portion of the continent. It was also known for its vast stone roads that were said to span a quarter mile wide in four separate directions. Allowing for both massive foot traffic, but in this specific case, the large waterways that would split the stone roads also allowed for many of the sky boats to float there way to the center of the city. Known for its golden buildings, vast market districts, and multiple sacrificial towers. The Cloud city of Grunaga was seen as a jewel to all who would view it. Even the few lower plane beings that were brought for there trade goods would report vast golden streets, platinum pillars, diamond like lamps, and magic flowing in every corner. What they do not describe is that the city itself is also well known for having the second largest slave district of all the storm giants. Thus many can be found taking the side roads specifically marked for slaves and lesser beings. The constant screams from the souls trapped within their magically powered street lamps also gives off a more menacing appearance the longer you stay.

Cloud City of Belph

A city known as the city of demons for its clan leaders willingness to enslave the cloud giants and use them to hold the city together. Showing the true desperation of the clan of Belph. The cloud city itself is just as disturbed, as the city houses the largest slave population and an even larger population of half giants during the first age. Though later the city itself would be brought down into the oceans by a strange spell. Those few of the lower plane permitted to trade amongst the city, report vast streets of obsidian and half storm giants of all races and a tower in ruin at the center of it all. In truth, large strange fiend like statues could be found throughout the city where once proud members of the clan had been depicted. The city seems to smell ripe with disease, and the few pure blooded storm giants left seem to all be as bloodthirsty and hungry for power as their leader. Though the city lacks for storm giants, what should be noted is due to the larger mixed population the cloud city of Belph is actually one of the only open markets to the lower planes without permission being needed to arrive upon the clouds themselves. All are welcome within the city, and with many cultures blending amongst the city, new and unique inventions can be found throughout the streets. While the city itself may be in ruin, there are many merchants who believe the city only truly fell due to poor management and pride of ones heritage.

Cloud City of Agaeti

Large drinking halls, food around every corner, and always a celebration being had. These are the words described by those few slaves who escaped the cloud city of Agaeti. With the largest population of a single clan in all of the cloud cities. It is well known that a storm giant would be hard pressed to not end up sleeping with family while living in this city. Though the city is well known for its in breeding, it is also well known for its massive breweries, streets filled with food carts from all over, and its grand statues of golden or ruby carved apes. A city of great wonder, with music around every corner and bards singing of grand praise. Though one should know that to trade amongst the Agaeti clan and to not be related to them was almost a taboo when living in the city. Thus many merchants have been noted to only do business with the clan when they send members down to the lower plane. Otherwise avoiding any unnecessary ties to the clan. For even those of the lower planes would be expected once a member of the clan, married to a lower or half breed member of course, to answer the call of war and celebration. Thus forcing many unsuspecting young merchants to serve in battles they were never prepared for.

Cloud City of Herja

Cloud City of Herja has one of the more unique designs to it. As a clan whos focus is on battle every aspect of the city shows it. From the multiple small pyramid like towers that allow lesser clans to perform sacrifices. To the massive barracks where all male members of the Jotun-Hrid race were required to live while serving on raids and invasions. Leaving the city to focus much of its artistic design through captured and talented slaves. Strangely enough the entrance to the city of Herja is noted for its two pit fiend like storm giants that were said to have been carved by a protofiend from the house of kllozin. The city is well known for its massive stockpile of legendary weapons, armors, and other such crafts. As the city seemed to employ a large variety of slaves to provide unique crafts and to strengthen the city through construction. With vast aqueducts that would house large greenhouses, to the massive castle gates that takes a team of storm giants to open and close. Allowing for the city to almost be siege proof as the clan leader loves to remind travelers of. Uniquely the city also houses a small adventuring guild or so the rumors say. As the cloud city of Herja provides vast bounties for unique and interesting monsters to be brought to the arenas for fights. Thus while many of the clan look down upon the lower plane beings, adventurers of merit seem to be looked to as honorary drengr.

Cloud City of Freyoctl

A city well known for both its massive population of storm giants, but as well the vastness of the city itself. Sporting the largest individual housed population in the world at its pique of power. Cloud City of Freyoctly or Rabbits in the common tongue was a vast city of wonder and enjoyment. For every few houses one could find a brewery, a brothel and a slave market. Merchants and Vikingr were said to gain a fortune that could rival clan Grunaga in a day and the very next lose and find themselves sold into a life of servitude. The city is also known for its single golden and platinum sacrificial tower that stands tall above the city at over twelve stories. Each floor housing members of the main clan of Freyoctl. It is said that even within the tower itself lays another city with gardens, forests, and much more. The city even glows in the night sky as they employ vast amounts of magical slaves to keep the city lights on at all times. As well as strange creatures that many believe to be golems shaped like golden rabbits can be seen patrolling the streets whenever war or conflict breaks out within the city.

Cloud City of Cueinga

A city known for its many strange slaad like statues made from rare metals not found on the material plane. Though the only city to have been discovered in history as it was found to be far beneath the oceans surface and inhabited by sea elves in modern day. Many of its rare and exquisite statues still remain, depicting the city as the worshippers of the slaad race. A species noted to be in the first age similar to the Ubica but with a single divergence of cultural interest it appears. This has led many scholars to believe that the first great Slaad city was actually beneath the city of Cueinga being cultivated as a worship to those they had gained power from. The statues themselves have also been confirmed to currently still hold extrodinarily powerful slaads who were bound to them through some ancient blood magic ritual. At the time of the first age, the city was well known for its grandeous design of large pyramid like structures that were capped with the slaad like creatures standing at the peaks. Each would hold a large tower, signifying the power that Yord truly had, a total of 7 are noted to have been held within the city. Each guarded by a lower clan member of the Cueinga, each charged with its protection. It is believed that the city itself while warm and inviting with its simple designs and good treatment of the slaves. At all hours the city roads irrigation lines would be seen with fresh and bright blood circulating throughout. Screams seemed to be drowned out from the tops of the towers, but it is said that each time another was given to the tower, the eyes of the slaad statue beneath would begin to glow a bright blue, then red, then grow faint and dark once more.

Cloud City of Ofropapalotl

A city of cold blue crystals and large obisidian like butterflies depicted all throughout the city. A city known to the common language as "City of Spirits", as the butterfly was considered a carrier of the soul to the jotun's of Ofropapalotl. It was believed that the more colorful and larger the butterfly was, the grander the soul who was being carried to the afterlife. Though the truth of the matter is far darker, as beneath the cities simple and dark architecture, can be found the remenants of a forgotten god to history or so the story goes. It is believed that through the use of this large beings heart a great forge was created that allowed for the souls of those placed upon it to be transfered into an item. Though this method was noted to cause the items to go into madness if they were unwilling or their wielder was to weak. With this advancement the clan leaders would continue to encourage a new form of gambling for those within the city. Allowing all to bet lifespans and years of service in exchange for grander prices. The butterflies that seem to gravitate to the city in irony are actually noted as "Corpse Shiners" who are noted for eating the scraps leftover of other predators. It is well studied that the butterfly species grows quite large and beautiful the longer it lives and feeds. Giving this city its magnificent depiction in the artworks of its time as almost shining like a beacon on clear nights. The cities many crystals are believed to have been a byproduct of the soul smithing techniques that the clan had developed. Though we call it a technique, in truth it only takes one willing to attune to the large forge to be able to use it. Thus proving that soul magic was still beyond the clan at the time.

Cloud City of Cuauht

While no records exist of another giant race, many believe that due to the similarity between the cloud giants architecture and the almost stone giant like practicality of the many structures within the city. Many scholars believe that the cloud city of Cauauht or in common cloud city of Eagles. Once belonged to another individual race of jotuns, and some though few in number, believed that the city once belonged to the Endrik but that a lesser jotun-hrid Vind-old managed to defeat the cocky upstart in single combat which would lead to his descent to the lower plane. And the sudden change within the city and its inhabitants. What the truth may be, no one will ever know. What should be noted is the vast amounts of sorcerers and necromancers within the city. As it houses the largest library and documentation of sorcerer bloodlines across all of silencia. Marking down even newly discovered though lesser valued bloodlines within the lower planes. The city is known for its worship and focus of power through a strange ruby like eagle creature. Each year it can be seen that the statue dedicated to the creature, standing over eight stories tall by itself, is bathed in blood of sacrifices to continue the gift of fertility amongst the powerful magic users. As is the cities divine right.

Nobility

Here we shall discuss notable noble houses through the time periods.

Regin Ogeron “The Blood Storm” Clan Grunaga

A giant of a man even amongst his species. Standing nearly three times the height and width of the average storm giant. He is said to have had three massive horns on his head that adorned like a crown as they were fitted with thin gold and platinum chains. Each sporting extremely rare or magical gemstones. Ogeron would become famous not only for his size but for executing one of each of the other storm giant clans and his first daughter whos name would be lost to history. Gaining the nickname The Blood Storm after he wiped out the lost seventh giant clan single handedly. He is also known for having managed to push Mov’asi into a corner on more the one occasion during raids in the old kings youth. Noted for his love of battle, his enjoyment of training, and his obsession with warriors of renown. Ogeron would live up to his name even in the end.

Faltharn of Clan Grunaga

Standing fourty five feet tall, Faltharn took after his father in most ways. His appearance, his great strength, and his cunning intellect, in every way but one Faltharn had been blessed by his father. However, Faltharn of clan Grunaga would grow up the worst of his brothers, the oldest and expected heir as he was. Would lead to Ogeron continous beatings when failing at keeping up, constant expectations of being in every raid, and there were even some rumors of Faltharn's involvement with a vind-old that would end with Faltharn's interest in protecting the weak and killing the strong. As Faltharn took the beatings in stride, Yord would be one of the first to speak of the young mans abilities. For he loves his brothers, but most believed the constant abuse would cause Faltharn to grow strong but soft, as he grew older his want to protect the weak would come to a breaking point. When rumor of Endrik signing his brother on to join a raid with him would lead to Faltharn almost being killed by a warrior of Clan Belph. Badly wounded, Faltharn would nearly give his life to protect his brother Endrik who by all accounts was said to have abandoned his brother to continue the raid. Those who had been raided were the still young Snow Beards of Crakec, and with the help of a old chieftan of the tribe, Faltharn would managed to bring himself back to fighting shape within a month. Though in that time it was said that while missing, all except Regin Ogeron believed him dead, and the younger brothers though caring as they were on the outside knew the truth and what was to come if Faltharn were to be dead. Though it is unknown how the brothers would deal with this in there own ways, we would later see upon Faltharn's triumphant return aftering slaying an ancient green dragon to a court that had all but expected him dead. This would give rise to the later stories of his protection of the weak, and give even further rise to the rumors of Faltharn's love and hate of his siblings.

Vikingr Baur’s “The Broken Blade” of clan Belph

Known as the fiend worshiper, Baur would lead his clan to its demise. A tall but lean storm giant, Baur was known to be a young childhood friend of Ogeron “The Blood Storm”. However as the two would later ascend to power, claiming rights over there clans sacrificial towers. It would be discovered to Baur’s dismay that his tower had already found itself without sacrifices as the slaves would manage to escape back to the lower plane as the storm giants called it. Having believed it to be his childhood friend who had actually stolen the sacrifices to strengthen his own tower. The two clans would go to war, a war in which Ogeron would not only conquer the other six with a small band of twenty of his brothers. But it would be noted that he would single handedly slaughter over four hundred of the clan of Belph in a single day. Leading to the old kings nickname and Baur’s title. After fleeing with what few members of his clan were left, Baur would spend his time making pacts with fiends and other creatures for him and his people. As well as continue to offer sacrifices as they raided non stop across the continents.

Regin Agaeti of clan Agaeti

Known for there rampant celebrations, and unfortunate drinking problems, the clan of Agaeti worship the ancient ape-like creature that though the name was lost to history. Could be seen in the banner of the Agaeti clan with three ruby eyes, a wide mouth, and fur of gold. Usually depicted by lower members of the clan to be drinking different alcoholic beverages depending on which branch of the Agaeti it is. Agaeti herself was named as her predecessor had lost his wit in a contest of strength against a uliveres lord at the time. Thus the simpler name was all he was able to manage to speak before passing on, leaving the clan in the hands of a child just born. Agaeti is a hard woman who stands half the size of most storm giant men. But her skills with magic are to be questioned by none. Having founded a bloodied druidic circle, the small court she keeps of witch like casters are known as the Crimson Storms. Though having spent most of her life growing up in the shadow of her predecessor, Agaeti would manage to be the only clan to not be devastated as Ogeron showed up. Many believe this was due to the charm of the child now clan leader at the time. Others that Ogeron saw what she would become and believed her a greater weapon in his hand then broken on the floor.

Regin Gaurim “The Silenced Storm” of clan Herja

A clan known throughout the lands even amongst the dragons as the clan of warriors. The finest soldiers to come out of the storm giants cloud kingdom, the Herja clan had only ever known war. And they were the best at it, though the clan was known for its low populations due to its extreme raiding and continuous blood sacrifices. The Herja clan mainly operated around the continent of The Cracked Lands where they hunted both Gloom and high ranking proto-fiends for there main right of passage. With Regin Gaurim being one of the scarier cases. As it was noted for him to go on raids that would last weeks with multiple cities vanishing off the map. Though Gaurim did lack one thing that his clan was well known for, magic, as he had not inherited his families bloodline causing many amongst his clan to believe him an imposter. This would later be the reason for Gaurims challenge to Ogeron and the loss of the young kings tongue, granting him his nickname. From that day forth, Gaurim was not questioned for his right to rule, and the duel between the two was never truly witnessed. Only that when the two jotun’s left the arena, one was missing a tongue and on the floor. While the other looked to have received over a hundred cuts and bruises all over his body.

Regin Mayamoctl “The Blessed” Clan Freyoctl

Clan Freyoctl was known for its large emerald rabbit statues all throughout its lands. The city worshiped its leader like a god. Just as the other clans had, but clan Freyoctl was different. A clan that was purely one large family tree that expanded vastly across the storm giant lands. Leaving many brothels and other businesses to be ran by clan Freyoctl. They had mastered the arts of seduction through ritual sacrifice. As both lesser half children and slaves captured in the many brothels on the lower plane that clan Freyoctl ran would find themselves at the end of the knife. Mayamoctl “The Blessed” was no exception to her clan, a randy young woman who had already given birth to five sons and three daughters. Mayamoctl would gain her nickname for her blessed ability to take the hearts out of her targets while they still beat and turning them into strange magical light sources in jars. Mayamoctl is even said to be able to keep her beloved targets alive for a few days after, as she is rumored to keep them chained away as her most devout servants. Truly a Jotun-Hrid you would want to avoid. Her banner is shown as a emerald rabbit with a ruby heart in its mouth.

Regin Yord “Grandmother” Clan Cueinga

A large and voluptuous woman, Yord is noted as being the founder of her clan and the eldest. All who have come before her in court have referred to her as the “Grandmother of Storms”. As she is noted to treat all who come before her as if they were her own children. Though do not let her kind and warm demeanor fool you, as Ogeron would learn, those old eyes of hers see all. And when the day came that he marched into this city, Yord showed her true power. Ogeron left with fear in his eyes but not a single bit of blood was spilled. No one knows what happened, but the Cueinga clan has served the Grunaga faithfully since. Known for their frog like appearance, many believe the elder members of clan Cueinga to actually be ancient toads from a forgotten age. The first born of Yord is even called as such, known throughout as the Golden Cueinga for his shiny bright hair like his father, a fire giant. It is believed that Regin Yord stole away with a young fire giants heart and used it to craft a child from. Though the rumors of her being a respected caster are unfounded in truth. What is known is that Regin Yord stands leagues ahead when it comes to the latest information going on throughout the many nations. As well as being able to sneak up on even the most sneaky of grandkids who would be found running through the halls at all hours.

Regin Tamoan “The Clawed” Clan Ofropapalotl

A young storm giant whos gender is never noted in the histories. Only that their capabilities in battle and defense were unprecedented. Tamoan would rise to power after she would properly fend off the Cueinga clans minor rise against the other nations. Watching the predecessor fall in battle, Tamoan would assume control of the clan while still a teenager, immediately closing the gates and starting a five year siege. In which it is noted, that the young leader would spend her time ambushing, harassing, and stealing supplies from the fearsome force. The siege would come to an end and cement Tamoan in history as “The Clawed” when through the use of a blood magic ritual, two giant and beautiful obsidian wings would sprout out of her back as she and the last few followers of hers would sally out to start throwing spells higher then any had seen prior. As it turned out, Tamoan was a sorcerer with a bloodline that allowed her to learn magic far beyond her natural bodies capabilities. Though the battle would be gruesome, the young ruler would sprout claws made of magic and as many depicted at the time, would begin cutting what appeared to be the souls of the enemy. As one by one the bodies fell without a wound on the outside body. Giving the Ofropapalotl clan the victory they needed to drive off Grandmothers forces. And to establish herself as a respected clan leader, though she would bow almost upon meeting Grurnaga, many believed this was due to the lack of numbers amongst the clan.

Regin Ari-Orn of clan Cuauht

A clan known for its raw power in magic and inventions of the Duadi spells. As well as the crafters of the first Duadi grimoires that would later be stolen by clan Grunaga and then later once more by the high elves. They stood unique even amongst there own, as they only stood in truth ten to eleven feet on average. As the Cuauht clan believed the shorter there offspring, the more blessed by the ancient eagle god they drew much of there power and inspiration from. Ari-Orn was considered to be a unique even amongst his clan for his height, standing a full eight feet tall and having been blessed with magic beyond any storm giant that had existed. While young, Ari-Orn was noted for his erudite lifestyle in which he rarely would be seen without a book in his hand or a strange vial full of liquid. Many believe that Ari-Orn was the founder of blood magic in the world, and would create the different blood hunter orders through the elite knights that served him. Others believe that he used the blood magic that he would gather from the constant slave purchasing with the dragons and other races to make golems. These golems would go on to replace his living staff. As it is believed that Ari-Orn only feared those who were close and had unlimited access to him.

Current and Past Wars

Here we shall discuss the notable wars for each period and who they were against.

The Puppet's War

A war given the name puppet's war after the gloom queen herself would declare her allegiance to another around the same time. Though unknown as the first to strike in history usually is, the gloom queen was rumored to have sent assassins herself after the first king of the grunaga, Ogeron himself. It was said that though the assassin would catch the powerful enemy by surprise, even with a fatal blow the king managed to cut down the assassin before passing from the poison that had been carved into his neck. Many would note the disagreements between Gregsmaratan and Ogeron, as the dragon merchant would be forced into an uneasy alliance through threats of war and plundering of trade routes. Though some historians believe that the grand scheme was actually pulled off by the leader of the Toth at the time, in a grand scheme to disrupt the other kingdoms. Noteablly, as Ogeron would fall to the first blade, many others would find themselves the targets of the silent war. With the Frost giant leader Uthem, the fire giant leader Sunna, the dragon lord Xoowryct, and the unified kobold kinships leader Zakris Vulpo, all finding themselves the victims of attacks as the first blade found its mark. Only time would tell who would come out on top with this war.

Religious beliefs

Here we shall discuss the different religious beliefs in this kingdoms history throughout the periods.

Note

Storm giants would not worship any other then the king, which led to them becoming more powerful. It is said that Ogeron and his son Faltharn were both powerful enough to stand against Alenta and refuse her when she asked them to make peace. Neither worrying of the consequences as she was their equal in power but not in respect.

Events/Holidays

We shall begin to discuss notable holidays and events in this kingdom. Explaining further on where they come from and what goes on during them.

The Blota Gnaefa

Roughly translating to the Sacrificial Tower celebration, this was a time that happened with the turning of each season. The Storm giants believed that each time the world would change its weather, a sacrifice must be made for new power to grow. And thus the annual raids would start off the first week with every willing and able body joining in as they would set out to capture any and all they could. After a week long raiding, the raiders would all return to present there sacrifices to the Regin and those whos sacrifices are chosen for the Regin themselves get to partake in the power the tower has to offer. The third week follows with the winning raiders being allowed to attend the main ceremony upon the massive tower where a block of stone with strange etchings and the stains of blood can be found. Here they will drink of the blood of the sacrificed while the Grunaga clan completes its ritual. While in truth, drinking the blood did very little, it is believed that it would cure any wounds, ailments, and grant you a few years extra life. While the ritual caster would gain the entire lifespan supposedly of the sacrificed.

Economy

Here we shall discuss the unique economics of different nations as needed.

Economic Status

The current noted treasury value of the nation through raw resource development

Coins

Here we shall find how the coins look, what materials they are made of, and what the value of the coins are on the overall market.

DIAMOND CROWNS

The first coin that replaced the common platinum that the dragons used for its shininess. Giants though, are not dragons, thus the more common material of liquid diamonds would be harvested from the cores of the volcanoes in the heart of the magma as it was believed. This material would be farmed to make coins and other magical items.

RUBY VOLCANOS

Believed to be equivalent to the gold piece commonly used by the lesser nations including dragons. Thus the Jotun-Modr pioneered the coin in the shape of their homeland to be used by those sworn to them. These simple coins are individually 5cm by 5cm like the other coins, however it is clear and seems to sparkle from its craftsmanship only possible by the Jotun-Modr who individually made each coin.

SAPPHIRE HILLS

Sapphire hills were thinner coins due to there higher rarity, though most giants valued sapphires less then rubies and only slightly more then emeralds. Thus most recognized this simple hill drawn with sheep grazing into the individual sapphires as a silver coin.

EMERALD PLAINS

Lastly and most common in the Jotun-Modr volcanos were emeralds. As the material was farmed simply from their individual Rok-heap herds. Thus simple grass would be carved into the coins as apprentices practiced there arts on the coins.

Trade Goods

Here you shall find the trade goods this race has on offer in the nations they inhabit.

SKY SHIPS

A ship designed with strange giant circles where sails would stand. They have a light shimmering net that can be seen linking three of the circles. Though these ships are considered small to jotun-hrid, they are considered to be equal to a war galley in size and capability. The ships are said to harness the wind through the nets and begin to fly off at great speeds. Though the helmsman is noted to need great strength to control the ship, those working the sails are noted to be the most capable amongst the warriors in magic as it is required to close the nets without having your magic drained from you as you pull on the strange purple gemstone cables.

CITY PLANS

A unique practice amongst many jotun-hrid that never had a cultural significance but was well practiced amongst the people. Was the interest in architecture and city planning, as many youth were taught how to look at settlements and decide the easiest way to raid and capture slaves. A unique interest developed with the creation of an artistic city planning design that became popular amongst the youth. Thus when traveling through the market districts, it would be common to find grand paintings of cities with mathematical and resource perspectives, from lands not yet seen by many.
