Dragon's Tear

Long ago, before humans lived the Celestial Dragon came and took the Earth under Her protection among other planets She watched. Periodically She returns to see how the world progressed. When life developed in the seas She rejoiced. When life moved to land She cheered. When humans evolved, She celebrated, yet also sorrowed. She was enamored with these cleaver determined creatures, and loved their potential. Yet saw they were under prepared for what the world could though at them. They had no teeth or claws, though they created tools. They had no fur, though they crafted skins and created shelters, crude as they were. No mater what was thrown at them, they would move forward, striving to survive. Despite their determination She worried for their future. She wanted them to survive; as such She was moved to shed one solitary tear.   This tear landed in the Earth, buried deeply in its crust, and It's Power subtly spread to all the Lands, providing Inspiration and Motivation for fire, better tools and an even stronger Will, that allowed human kind to continue forward, till civilizations covered the earth. When humans were self-sufficient it became dormant, It's Power diminishing, but it's influence continued to be felt by humans. It also allowed those who had the spark to use magic and become, mages, witches, and sorcerers.   Though time, the age of magic was supplanted by the age of science, and magic all but forgotten except in fairy tales. It was during this time that a young man, Charles Boniner, found this tear. Though he knew not what it was he could tell that it held great power. He and his family used this tear to create a limitless source of power for the whole world, solving the energy crises. Life was good for humans during this time, until generations later the Power woke up. It did not like how it was being used. It was confined, not allowed to do more then provide power for the world. It did not like that, it was not what It was created for. This was a tiny role for it to fulfill, and so It fought back, eventually freeing itself, and in the process Unraveling the land around it, creating the Rapar. The secondary plants that the Tear's power was being siphoned off too also became Unraveled. This made it impossible for humans to cross the Unraveled borders without getting sick.   Unfortunately, there were humans caught in the backlash of the Unraveling. The tear only wanted to free itself, not hurt others so it allowed animals pass freely without harm, and changed the humans, granting the power to shift. They could change their skins to that of an animal that matched their nature and environment, creating the Skinwalkers. As such Skinwalkers are closely tied to the tear.   The tear is now in a half dormant state, remembering It's purpose, but also remembering how it was used. Protecting Itself while protecting the world it keeps the Unraveled lands intact, only allowing certain creatures across the borders, animals and Skinwalkers, and producing small tears of its own, in the form of Crystals that humans can use to survive and thrive in this new world.

Summary

A tear from a Celestial Dragon fell to earth It projects power, inspiration and motivation that allowed humans to survive and create civilizations. It became dormant Found by the Boniner family Used to power the world The tear didn't like being confined Woke up broke free and created the Unraveled lands. The tear also created Skinwalkers from the people who where caught in Unraveled areas Crystals are a product of the Tear.

Historical Basis

This artifact was found about 100 years before the Unraveling, by the Boniner family and used to solve the energy crises. But if it came from a Celestial Dragon it is unknown. The power plant that produced the energy from this artifact became unstable generations after it was found, and the surrounding area, and the areas connected to the secondary power plant became Unraveled. Soon after the Unraveling humans found the Crystals, that now power their devices. If you trace the lines that these Crystals grow you will find that they follow the lines connecting the primary power plant to the secondary power plants

Spread

This myth isn't well spread out. The Boniner family knows that they held custody over this artifact until the Unraveling drove them out of the Rapar, and the current head of the family and leader of the city of scientists, Posenton, is searching for a way back to the Rapar and for control of the artifact.   Most Skinwalkers know of their connection to the Unraveled lands. They all feel it deeply, but knowledge of the tear and they myth behind it depends from family to family. Most don't know of the tear. The bear shamans of the north have a closer connection to the tear, and pass this story from shaman to shaman.
