Joob IV

Joob IV, a once-thriving world in the outer ring, is now a barren and broken landscape of ancient petrified coral reefs, relics of an ocean that once covered the planet. These massive coral structures, now calcified, jut up from the ground, their twisted and skeletal remains serving as a haunting reminder of the planet's former vitality.
The oceans, long dried up, have given way to a desolate world of dust storms and cracked earth. The few remaining bodies of water are stagnant pools, tainted and filled with remnants of the old world, reflecting the destruction brought upon by the ongoing civil war.   The Kulath, the native people of Joob IV, are a hardy, tribal species marked by their short, stocky frames and leathery, tan to brown skin. They are survivors, built to endure the harsh conditions of their world. Their culture is deeply rooted in their clan systems, with each clan living in relative isolation, bound to the ancestral lands and traditions that have been passed down for generations. The Kulath are renowned for their resilience and their ability to adapt to the harshest environments. In times of peace, they are skilled hunters, gatherers, and craftsmen, building their settlements among the towering spires of ancient coral cities. However, the ongoing civil war has shattered their way of life.   The planet is torn between two rival coalitions: the Korlan Front and the Grengol Militia.

The Korlan Front

The Korlan Front is an expansionist faction led by a central government that seeks to abolish the traditional clan systems and unite Joob IV under a single, centralized rule. The Front’s ideology is based on the belief that Joob IV can never prosper unless the old ways are eradicated and the planet is unified under a singular authority. They view the clan system as an outdated and divisive relic, impeding progress and development. Their supporters are often from urban centers or those who seek to control the vast resources of the petrified coral reefs, believing that centralization and industrialization are the keys to restoring Joob IV to its former glory.
The Korlan Front employs a well-organized military force, highly disciplined and equipped with modern technology, including heavy artillery and air support, as well as mechanized units designed to break through the natural barriers of Joob IV’s terrain. Their soldiers are often seen as symbols of order, regimentation, and the future of Joob IV, but their methods are brutal. Their expansionist policies have already led to the suppression of several smaller clans, with the Front’s forces systematically encroaching on tribal lands in an effort to consolidate power and resources.

The Grengol Militia

In direct opposition to the Korlan Front stands the Grengol Militia, a faction rooted in the preservation of the traditional clan systems. The Grengol Militia views the Korlan Front’s attempts at unification as an existential threat to their culture and way of life. They are fiercely loyal to their clans, which are seen as the heart of Kulath identity. The Militia is made up of clan leaders, warriors, and common Kulath, all united under the banner of preserving the old ways. They believe that the clan system, despite its flaws, has sustained their people through countless generations and that its destruction would mean the erasure of everything they hold dear.
The Grengol Militia is less organized than the Korlan Front but is fiercely determined. Their forces are composed of guerrilla fighters, heavily reliant on their knowledge of the terrain and the ancient spire cities. The Militia’s fighters often use the broken ruins of the planet's once-great cities as natural fortresses, launching surprise attacks and skirmishes against the Korlan forces. They are heavily outmatched in terms of technology, but their resourcefulness and intimate knowledge of Joob IV’s environment make them formidable opponents. The Militia’s leadership is decentralized, with each clan maintaining its own hierarchy, but they are united in their hatred for the Korlan Front and their desire to maintain the independence of their people.

The Conflict

The civil war on Joob IV is a brutal and destructive one, with both sides fighting for control of the planet’s future. The Korlan Front’s attempts to push the clans into submission have led to widespread devastation, particularly in the regions where the spire cities once flourished. These cities, now largely abandoned, serve as both battlefields and symbols of the planet's lost golden age. The Grengol Militia, though fighting for preservation, has become increasingly entrenched in their guerrilla tactics, launching attacks from the labyrinthine ruins, but they are not without their own flaws. The war has drained the planet’s already limited resources, and many Kulath are beginning to question whether the cycle of violence is worth the price they are paying.
The planet's ecosystem is also suffering. The once-rich coral reefs, now petrified, were a vital part of the Kulath’s culture and economy, providing shelter and sustenance for many tribes. As the war rages on, these ancient structures are being ravaged by combat, and the planet's already fragile climate is worsening. Sandstorms and violent weather patterns have become more frequent, further isolating the Kulath and exacerbating the hardships they face.

The Future of Joob IV

The future of Joob IV is uncertain. Both the Korlan Front and the Grengol Militia are locked in a stalemate, with neither side able to claim a decisive victory. The Kulath people are trapped in a cycle of violence, with many wishing for peace but unsure of how to break the hold of the war. The once-prosperous planet has become a battleground, its rich history and culture under threat from both external forces and internal division.   The ultimate fate of Joob IV depends on the outcome of this civil war: Will the planet be unified under the rule of the Korlan Front, leading to a new era of industrial growth at the cost of tradition? Or will the Grengol Militia succeed in preserving the clan-based society, even as they face mounting challenges in the form of dwindling resources and increasingly brutal conflict?   Only time will tell if the Kulath can endure the weight of their past or if their future will be shaped by the bloodshed of the present.
