Pinari's Airship
The first recorded airship ever built on the Sea of Clouds, Pinari's Airship was Alphonse Pinari's most impactful invention. While it couldn't travel long distances comfortably and was ill-equipped to resist storms, its first voyage showed the promise of combining the use of a modified Levitation Crystal, a sail, and a purpose-built wooden structure to hold everything together. The news spread across the nearby islands as many inventors attempted to craft their own airships. Over the following years, new prototypes capable of traveling further and further were built, until this new invention became sufficiently advanced to connect the entire Sea of Clouds. Since then, airships have become ubiquitous, but Pinari's Airship is remembered as the first of its kind. This invention brought such profound changes to the world that it now marks the Year 1 of the modern calendar.
This ship was little more than a rectangular box with a sail attached to the top and containing a very rough Levitation Crystal. Railings helped ensure none of the passengers would accidentally fall off, but it otherwise had no accomodations allowing to spend multiple days on it, to carry provisions or materials, or anything of the sort. Even the steering was done strictly by pulling on the ropes holding the sail. For these reasons, its only voyage consisted of reaching a smaller nearby island and coming back. The ship was then quickly taken apart so its crystal could be used to build Pinari's next airship.
To this day, people still celebrate this first airship by building their own replicas of it as part of various festivals and other holidays.
Propulsion
Like all airships for centuries and most airships to this day, Pinari's Airship used a sail as its mean of propulsion. This allows it to move in accordance with the direction of the wind, while the Levitation Crystal prevents it from falling down into the clouds below.
