Valaron

Born with the blood of the primordials in their veins, the Valar are the stuff of fairytales and bed time stories. This comes as quite a shock when people run into them in the market place.   Each Valaron is born with an innate connection to one of the four primal elements: fire, water, earth, and air. This may be very subtle, almost passing as a normal human, while others are more overt.   Occasionally, a Valaron is the result from exposure to a surge of elemental power, through phenomena such as an eruption from a planar convergence. Elemental energy saturates any creatures in the area and might alter their nature enough that their offspring with other mortals are born as Valaron.

Heirs to Elemental Power

Valar inherit something from both sides of their dual nature. They resemble humans but can have unusual skin color (red, green, blue, or gray), and there is something odd about them. The elemental blood flowing through their veins manifests differently in each one, often as magical power.

Wild and Confident

Valar rarely lack confidence, seeing themselves as equal to almost any challenge in their path. This certainty might manifest as graceful self-assurance in one Valaron and as arrogance in another. Such self- confidence can sometimes blind Valar to risk, and their great plans often get them and others into trouble.   Too much failure can chip away at even a Valaron’s sense of self, so they constantly push themselves to improve, honing their talents and perfecting their craft.

Genasi Names

Genasi use the naming conventions of the people among whom they were raised. They might later assume distinctive names to capture their heritage, such as Flame, Ember, Wave, or Onyx.

Age

Valar mature at about the same rate as humans and reach adulthood in their late teens. They live somewhat longer than humans do, up to 120 years.

Size

Valar are as varied as their mortal parents but are generally built like humans, standing anywhere from 5 feet to over 6 feet tall. Your size is Medium.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness only as shades of gray.

Bloodline of Air

Air genasi are proud of their heritage, sometimes to the point of haughtiness. They can be flamboyant, and are keen to have an audience. They rarely stay in one place for long, always looking for a new sky to see and breathe. Air genasi who don’t live in cities favor open lands such as plains, deserts, and high mountains. As changeable as the weather, your moods shift from calm to wild and violent with little warning, but these storms rarely last long.   Air genasi’s skin tones include many shades of blue, along with the full range of human skin tones, with bluish or ashen casts. Sometimes their skin is marked by lines that seem like cracks with bluish-white energy spilling out. Some air genasi speak with breathy voices, marked by a faint echo. An air genasi’s hair may be made entirely of clouds or vapor or might blow in a phantom wind.

Bloodline of Water

Many Valar with a connection to elemental water often have skin shades of blue and green, sometimes a blend of the two. Often they have small water droplets that collect on their skin and hair. There is also a general scent of fresh water or rain that accompanies a water valaron. Some even have hair that appears to be made of water itself.   The lapping of waves, the spray of sea foam on the wind, the ocean depths—all of these things call to your heart. Bloodline of Earth

An earth valaron’s skin can be the colors of stone and earth or a human skin tone with glittering sparkles like gem dust. Some earth valar have lines marking their skin like cracks, either showing glimmering gemlike veins or a dim glow shining through. Others a pebbled and rough hide, or even a coating of tiny embedded crystals. Earth valar hair can appear carved of stone or crystal or resemble strands of spun metal.   Earth valar are more withdrawn, and their connection to the earth keeps them from being comfortable in most cities. Their uncommon size and strength makes them natural soldiers, though, and with their stoic demeanor, they can encourage others and become great leaders. Many live underground, where they can be in their favored element. When they emerge from their caves, they might roam the hills and mountains or lay claim to old ruins. Earth valar are known to be very patient and take their time to make decisions, never acting rash or rushed.

Some bear skin tones common to humanity but with fiery marks, such as slowly swirling lights under their skin that resemble embers or glowing red lines tracing over their bodies like cracks. Fire valar hair can resemble sooty smoke, threads of fire that writhes under extreme emotion, or some more exotic specimens sport actual flames dancing on their heads. Fire genasi voices might sound like crackling flames, and their eyes flare when angered. Some are accompanied by the faint scent of brimstone.   Fire valar often get themselves into difficulty with their fiery tempers. They want others to share their high opinion of themselves, so they constantly seek to enhance their reputations. As a fire valar, you have inherited the volatile mood and keen mind of the efreet. You tend toward impatience and making snap judgments. Rather than hide your distinctive appearance, you exult in it.
