Mechanism Affinity (The 10,000,000th)

When the Mechanism first embedded itself into the earth, Society was in chaos. Landing anywhere from desolate areas, small towns and bustling cities, the barbs that gripped so tightly to earth had one defense mechanism beyond being near invulnerable. It emitted a field of mental distortion. For most humans, spending a few seconds near any piece of the Mechanism is enough to cause nausea, vertigo, dizziness and prolonged exposure, seizures, vomiting, and if left for too long, short term comas. Some humans have shown a resistance to the effects of the device, and thus a rating for how the material affects that person. Scientists and Retrievers(those who gather samples) must have at least a B to legally work in the field.
From Lowest to highest.
D: Making up 85% of humanity, D's can last a maximum of 20 seconds before symptoms set in.
C: C's make up 9% of humanity, C's can last 10 minutes to 2 hours.
B: B's make up 5% of humanity, B's can last 3-5 hours.
A: Making up ~1% of humanity, A's can last 6-15 Hours be
S: There are only 1000 S-class individuals currently known. They are completely immune to the effects of the Mechanism.

Manifestation

Beyond the harmful feelings that are broadcast through the metal, Humans who have suffered beyond their safe range will begin to develop a crippling fear of getting near or seeing any piece of the Mechanism. This can be a problem, given the sky is constantly obscured by the Machine.

Localization

The only real danger for exposure exists in a one-meter bubble around any material that originates from the Mechanism. Luckily, it's rare that any pieces fall or break from the machine.
