Session XXII

General Summary

Chasing after Doktor Theodesia Gratt, after well over a day, the group reaches the edges of an abandoned village, shrouded by the morning mists - Blutroch. They opt for a two-pronged assault, with one of the knights and the characters approaching from the northside, with Gerlbach and the other knights riding in from the southside. They meet at the town square, if it can even be called that, not having encountered a thing.    Then, however, they see Gratt's horse in a smaller, side-street, and when they approach it, horns sound from both sides - an ambush! The group surrounded, cultists of the Plaguefather stream out of the abandoned buildings, but they are not alone, with several huge, heavily armored figures storming forward on both sides - horses are decapitated and knights slain, everyone fighting for their life - with the majority, luckily enough, surviving, although certainly not unharmed, with Raaf having broken several ribs and most carrying at least some wounds.    Morathric and Will are first to chase after Gratt, into the woods, where they stumble upon the Doktor and a cultist seemingly arguing with a woman and a young child by a forest clearing. The argument seems to grow more and more heated until, suddenly, the woman - a witch, it becomes clear - seems to throw the contents of an (empty?) jar towards the cultist, who suddenly falls down in agony, clawing at his own eyes even as they start to bleed, never stopping, a hellish sound that can be heard over in Blutroch, causing the others to move to investigate. Gratt fares little better, with a pebble thrown against her leg instantly snapping it in a most unnatural position.    The witch, one Elfrida Silberwurt, is decidedly displeased with what has happened to Blutroch - her customers and family, including the young Heinfried that is with her have all perished because of the disease (save for the boy, naturally). Not particularly interested in surrendering herself to the authorities, either, she sets to leave - although not before throwing a little pebble over towards the knight that accompanied Morathric and Will with much the same result as it had on Gratt, with the two giving faux-chase after her - enough to convince the knights of their attempt at chasing down a dangerous witch. Elfrida tells them that if they decide they have need of her services, they can always simply approach Heinfried, over by the roadsigns outside of Blutroch.    Raaf, Skaldon, Gerlbach, and the others reach Morathric, Will, Gratt, and the cultist - who has finally stopped screaming. The cultist, who awakes and takes on an almost infantile position, completely shocked and unable to believe he is still alive, is killed by Will at Gerlbach's strong suggestion, while Doktor Theodesia Gratt is taken in and brought back to Ubersreik by the group, where she is to be interrogated - and where Eva Madelung, as it turns out, has seen about replacing Otto Krupp as guildmaster of the Physician's Guild.
