Session XXI

General Summary

With the Fishrook dealt with, the group sets out to investigate what's become of Liebwin, the other apprentice of Eva Madelung, who hasn't been heard of since he left town on an assignment over a month ago. They travel towards an army camp on the road towards Stimmigen, where Liebwin was supposed to be working as a surgeon, the camp itself split between a detachment of the Reikland State Army led by Lupold Kempermann and a detachment of Knights of the Blazing Sun led by Knight-Captain Friedendorfer on the one side, and a company of Tilean mercenaries led by one Captain Jacopuccio da San Sarello on the other.   They find that the physician's apprentice is, indeed, at the camp - or rather, just outside of it, having set up his tent just outside of camp and telling everyone to not come near. They are led there by one of the Tileans, following a struggle with attempting to find one that speaks Reikspiel, and find that Liebwin is seriously ill and isolating himself. Raaf learns of the things that ail him ever since his second day on the road, but can't quite place it as any disease he knows - the symptoms are all familiar, but all of them together, much less so. Will, however, recalls of a disease with a similar skin rash resulting in the town of Blutroch being wiped out.    They speak with Captain Jacopuccio, who is unable to lend Liebwin aid - the Myrmidian warrior-priestess that travels with them, one Paola de Mena, is a warrior, not a healer (and the burn scarring on her face certainly seems to indicate as much as well). They eat and drink with the Tileans, and hear the captain complain about his rival, Captain Mauro da Fino and his mounted 'Golden Invincibles', who are working for the von Jungfreuds - pretentious bastards they are!    The group travels back to Ubersreik, where they report to Eva Madelung, who suggests speaking with the doktor Theodesia Gratt about this, as she specializes in diseases and infections. With Gratt not present, they opt to simply go to her office and search through it themselves, where they come to some terrible realizations.   Theodesia Gratt, a member of the Tinean Fellowship, had been in correspondence with a fellow member from Nordland going by Doktor Faust, reporting on a new virulent strain that he included with his message, matching Liebwin's ailment - and in one of the cupboards, a shrine to none other than Nurgle the Plaguefather.    At the advice of an outraged Eva, who sees about fetching herself a gun, the group heads for the Knights Panther to get their aid in finding the Doktor, who was administering aid to the poorest of Ubersreik last she knew, and are immediately received by Knight-Captain Brander von Gerlbach, who leaps into action almost at once. With a group of knights in tow, he and the group head to find Doktor Gratt while two more knights go to the guild - only to find that the Doktor has realized she's been found out on her way back to the guild, spotting aforementioned knights. Grabbing herself a horse, she's fled the city northward.   Fetching their steeds - be they magically summoned by Morathric, or the heavy warhorses of the Knights Panther, the group rides northward.
