Holger Mauer

A heavily-built man in his 20s, Holger Mauer was a master stonemason accused of several murders. Twice he had been brought to the executioner's block, twice there had been some manner of natural or, as the Reiklanders would believe, divine intervention that caused the execution to be called off. Indeed, Holger was very much guilty of what he had been accused of - however, he had killed only out of necessity, as the people that died at his hand were all cultists that sought to take him away for darker purposes.
Holger was born with the unique ability to see the flaws in all the things he gazed upon or considered for some time, which is why he was fine enough a stonemason to receive praise even from the Dwarves in Ubersreik's Dawihafen district. The followers of the dark gods had darker purposes in mind for him, for he would be able to see the flaws in all manner of things of greater interest to them - people, organisations, governments... and through that, how best to destroy them.
While being escorted to his execution for the final time, he and the group that was taking him to Morr's Portal, where he was to be executed, Holger fought against the servants of the dark gods with them, and was released, neither the Road Warden sergeant (after some convincing) nor her hired help believing him to be deserving of death and he fled Ubersreik for the town of Auerswald, where he would later meet up with his fiancee Kristyn Gebauer.
