Uplink was from Earth-Prime 624's future. How far in the future, Uplink couldn't recall.
He knew the memory wipe of so much of his life in the future was part of the mission. However, snippets of memories still encoded in his memory drive allowed him to function as a cybernetic soldier.
All he could remember was he was sent back in time to save the future of Earth-Prime 624 by altering its past. When the time came, he knew, locked memories would help him decide how to respond to events around him to ensure the success of his mission.
Exactly, what his mission was eluded him. But he was a soldier and failure was not an option.
