Typhon/Nikonov AN-9400 Burst-Rifle

Written by: Ripshot

Usually I wouldn't bother making our Null Kit give an entire article to one of a few billion AK variants floating out there, but this one, the AN-9400 is an exception for good reason: This fella was made by Raleigh gunsmiths, stolen by Raleigh criminals and is looking to get involved in a whole bunch of Raleigh shootouts!   This snazzy Kalash'-derivative is based off a design that's been around for nearly a century, the AN-94 Abakan. It was pitched as a high-tech replacement for Russia's good old-fashioned AK-74s with its fancy recoil-delay system and two-round bursts, but it was just a little too far ahead for its age, and while it got a few users here and there in the military and police sectors, it never really got off the ground and was cancelled just over a decade after it was introduced.   Come 2077, and Andrei Nikonov, Raleigh citizen and a descendant of the rifle's original designer, wants to see if the 2070s has the right tech to succeed where the old AN-94 failed. He drew up his own take on the design, incorporating in new elements to simplify the AN-94's hilariously overcomplicated design and make it sufficiently idiot-proof to keep up with regular AKs, and took his ideas to several gunsmiths and manufacturers, until one of them finally bit: Typhon Munitions, who saw the design as something they could market to both upper and lower class markets. They signed up to manufacture a few hundred models and ship them to some 'exclusive clients' to see if it would sell in big enough numbers to start mass-producing for real.
'A few hundred' isn't mass-producing it already?

Any modern factory can reconfigure its automills to pump out a couple of hundred custom models instead of the usual product. It's about whether or not the AN-9400 was worth having its own dedicated production-line, really.

Well lucky for us, one of the first shipments sent out for testing was hit by blind luck, and a few crates of the new AN-9400 (real original name, guys) ended up on Raleigh's black market, despite Typhon and Lone Star's best efforts to fetch 'em all back. The design needed a few tweaks, but with some aftermarket parts and mods custom-made from a certain local gunsmith, they're looking to be as popular in Raleigh's underworld as they are with the handful of security and mercanary groups who liked this new, streamlined take on an old rifle.   So how is this thing, you might be impatiently asking? Truth be told chummer, it's still a pretty complicated fella - the thing is only less complicated by comparison to the old AN-94 - but it's actually a pretty solid rifle, all and all: The two-round burst meets the advertising claims of hitting twice before recoil is felt, and the system's been reworked to help manage recoil from regular firing as well. Otherwise, it's still an AK-derivative, for better or worse, but it'll give you a pretty legit edge over the regular AKs on the streets, provided you can afford the damn thing...
My favourite part about this new version is that all of the fancy systems have been fit inside the handguard and receiver, so you don't have all those telltail bumps and such on the outside. With a little custom work, you can make it just about identical to a run-of-the-mill AK-97, and not give away your little ace up the sleeve.

I usually try to kill the fuckers before they can deduce what kind of automatic rifle I'm firing at them, but you do you pal.
