Egu (/eˈgu/)

"Silence is the mother of wisdom."

It is said that to find Egu is to find peace.
One of the ninyod afke of the Broken Chains, Egu is among the most beloved of all the Great Ones. Even the ignorant and the fools cannot help but respect them and their legendary wisdom.
Myths hold that Egu is the twin of Xathat, but neither has ever confirmed or denied this outright. The two could not seem more different, for where Xathat feels young, Egu feels ancient. It is odd to many that Xathat is the zenith leader of the Broken Chains, and not Egu.

Many Shulte will set out on a pilgrimage to try to find Egu's temple. It is said that wisdom is to be found there, and much ink has been spilled over if that wisdom is lessons learned on the journey or the great dragon itself.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Egu strives after the depths of philosophical truth and meaning, plumbing the mysteries of being and reality itself. Unlike the bookish Sodza, Egu can be found pursuing their wisdom through experience and contemplation, rather than endless study. For Egu, the mathematical drawings of reason can only hold a partial truth, unlike the masterwork paintings of experience. Reason and information cannot describe the beauty of a sunset, nor the aching love of a mother towards her baby. To Egu, reason is insufficient and can never hold the fullness of existential truth.

Virtues & Personality perks

Despite being difficult to understand, Egu truly does everything they can to help those who manage to complete a pilgrimage. Given the geography of the Broken Chains, few manage this, so Egu is usually able to actually help the ones who make it.
Occasionally, Egu will hear of a great philosopher among the academics or wilders, and will go out of their way to find them and converse. Surprisingly, they go to the shulte contemplative as a student, not teacher, eager to experience reality again through the eyes of the little peoples.

Vices & Personality flaws

Through many centuries of contemplative study and introspection, Egu has found themselves nearly incomprehensible to the average person. Often, they have little patience for those who are not philosophically inclined. Or, worse, even when they try to help they struggle to speak in ways that most people can understand. This has resulted in Egu sometimes being viewed as elitist or judgmental, or even impractical, by the few who actually found them and managed to try to converse with them.
For this reason, those who want to find Egu typically undergo extensive philosophical training prior to setting out. This education is considered the first level of the pilgrimage. The second is the journey of experience itself, and the final is the arrival at the temple. Only the very fortunate, or unfortunate, will be lucky enough to discover Egu at the temple.

Personality Quirks

A frustrating habit Egu possesses is a tendency to try to explore all sides of any given question. This results in short questions spawning contemplation that can take years. The saying "Egu's brevity" as an insult for the verbose is derived from this.

Gender

Unlike T'set who rejects being confined to one gender or another, Egu believes gender is both a symbol and a tool. They encompass all and no genders, embodying whatever gender is most appropriate to the situation.
