Steel Ships Iron Men

The runners are chilling at a bar when a literal lizardman, dressed like a British punk with the painted frill to match, enters and beelines towards them. He introduces them as Simon Andrews, a Herr Brackhaus of sorts. Simon would like a hand retrieving a set of miniature ships. See, years ago Simon arranged for an entire shipment of them to be destroyed. Only one set survived, so now he wants to obtain it to properly finish the job.   The owner is a nerdy collector with a massive collection of miniatures, all weird but not considered worth anything. He lives in a penthouse flat and has no combat ability, so the local security and police are the only opposition that matter. A milk run, really. No really, some rent-a-cops should be easy enough to circumvent, just don't get into a drawn-out firefight.

Simon Andrews is a sleazebag who eats live mice, hits on everything that moves, and knows how to build a party. A former British punk, when he turned into a lizardman, the world was against him. It was in this period that he ended up in the hands of Lofwyr and became a loyal servant. Since then, his work has taken him all over the world, to places like Seattle and Chicago but also all over Europe.   Back in 2073, Simon was active in Seattle and arranged the destruction of a ship's cargo. This destroyed the entire printing of a miniatures game and bankrupted its creator. However, one demo sample actually survived. A decade later, Simon has found out and wants to finish the job, paying out of his own pocket and fueled by pure spite.

The Run

The collector, going by the alias "The Hoffinator", is called Robert Hoffman. He has collected random gaming material and merchandise of long-gone games for several decades, varying from mecha suits and life-size-posters to miniatures and dice. He owns a penthouse which is crammed full with the stuff, almost all of it worthless to all but him.   The building has relatively decent security and a police department just around the corner, so the runners will have to take a subtle approach to get in. The lobby is warded and a remote spider keeps an eye on the camera feeds. The runners will want to wait for Hoffman to go shopping downstairs, then get in carefully. Fortunately for them, he's about due for a weekly groceries trip.

Word on the street

"I basically left a job unfinished and it doesn't feel right. So please steal those ships for me, and then we can go paint the town red together."

"Hoffman? You mean the Hoffinator? Man, that guy is always busy with his toys. Only goes out for a weekly groceries run."

"You know, I think he welds? Wonder what he's all up to with all that tinkering gear of his."

"What do you mean, there is a mech rampaging through downtown, apparently chasing some folks?! What is this, a Kaiju movie shoot?! Go arrest them all!"

The Complications

Turns out the Hoffinator isn't just a collector. He also is a tinkerer, having engineered pretty much his entire collection to be more than it seems. So the miniatures aren't just metal toy ships, they're micro-drones with cannons that fire injection needles filled with narcoject. The rest of his collection includes varying nasty tiny weapons as well, from rubber pellets to extremely sharp blades.   And it gets worse. He modded a fake mecha suit into an actual operational mech suit. So when he finds out someone broke into his flat, he comes after them with a nasty arsenal. Needless to say, the cops are about to get really interested in what's going on, so the runners had best manage to hide well.

The Aftermath

Simon eagerly takes the miniature ships, then promptly gets stabbed by them. Just before he passes out, he manages to approve the payment from escrow. His biomonitor calls for help and soon, a Saeder-Krupp evac team comes pick him up. Asides from some permanent marker drawings on his face, he turns out fine.   As for the Hoffinator, once he finds out who was responsible for the theft, he deliberately obtains a one-of-a-kind Lofwyr plushy. He then sells it to Spinrad Technologies, his only payment being that they spread footage of the doll being utterly destroyed. Simon is the first to receive the footage. Afterwards, he moves out just in case, then continues building his collection.
