Fortune Favours The Bold

Beggars secretly hand each of the runners a coin-shaped device containing an invite to a matrix-call, alongside a credstick with 500 nuyen each. If they accept the invite, they are met with a Venetian Mask avatar. The mask introduces herself as Mevrouw Janssen, portraying herself as a fixer representing a collector in need of some historical coins.   The coins are located in a museum and, on account of not being considered worth much, are far from well-protected. However, if the collector shows interest, or someone else realises their true identity, their value would skyrocket, with increased security alongside it. As such, the collector wants the coins retrieved as soon as possible. With the museum about to open its exhibit, the runners only have a single day to retrieve them.

Patricia is a fixer who dabbles in various kinds of ritualistic magic. This makes her quite popular, on account of her ability to figure out what kind of magical devices serve her customers best. At the same time, when an object is quite popular, she plays out her customers against each other to make sure she gets the best bid.   Patricia has recently discovered a Fortune ritual, meant to bestow good luck and wealth upon its caster. Rather than sell it, she has decided to try it out herself first. And for that, she needs historical coins. Pretending to be representing a collector, she is now arranging runners to steal the items for her. That way, the museum won't come after her.

The Run

The coins are but a small part of a massive historical items exhibit, which has claimed over half the available gallery space in the Emmen Historical Museum. The collection is considered to be of great value culturally, but near-zero when it comes to the actual sale value. As a result, the exhibit lacks proper security. However, there's quite a few people still flitting about, trying to complete the final layout before the exhibit opens tomorrow.   Added to that is the problem that the locals distrust outsiders, so legwork is hard. With the layout not completed yet, the runners also will have to put in some proper legwork to figure out where inside they can find the target goodies.

Word on the street

"Many would consider the coins worthless. My customer disagrees, but a bid would draw attention to their true value. As such, I am in need of your urgent assistance."

"It's certainly nice to look at the collection, but it's all useless junk. Speaking of, why do you even care about trash like that?"

"I'm telling you, Bob, that skeleton moved! We need to call the cops!"

"Man, the collection that came to life. We're going to have to use that as a PR tagline."

The Complications

Yeah, so about that massive historical collection that's still being reorganised for the exhibit... The crew accidentally managed to put together some Feng Shui layout that is both very appeasing to the eye and awoke an awful lot of magical potential in the collection. What starts as just messing with people's senses, making it hard for the runners to make their way through the galleries, soon begins impacting technological observation as well.   And then, it gets worse. The skeletons seem to come to life, in the form of sabertooth tigers, dire wolves, even a mammoth appears to be rampaging through the halls. It is hard to tell what is real and what isn't, so the team has to either disrupt the Feng Shui of the collection, or fight their way through and get out with the coins. Assuming they can figure out where the exit is.

The Aftermath

With the utter chaos and actual damage, on account of some of the magic turning out to be having real physical consequences, the disappearance of the coins draws little notion. Instead, the museum becomes massively popular as everyone drops by to see the exhibit that came to life. The staff manages to recreate the disrupting positioning, so the visit is a real trip for its customers.   For the week or so before Saeder-Krupp quietly raids the place and absconds with some key objects, of course.   As for Patricia, she soon manages to complete her ritual and spends a lot of time figuring out the results. If it had any effect, she sure doesn't show it. But given how she never sold on the ritual to her customers, it appears she wants to keep it all to herself.

Haha I see spirit of Ray Harryhausen saying leave my coin alone, then the bones animate and get the runners.

And afterwards the runners still don't know if that was real or not. XD
