The hallow

When the mud rises from the swamp, and empty eye sockets stare at you, will you run from your own skull? Will you flee from the dead? Born of muck and mire, this species of canivorous reptile has a face of bone above its skull, the rest of its face sunken behind that initial look, so that its hidden body can frighten off most apex predators.

Swamp, living in the mud between the trees, it nests in hollowed stumps, in nests made of its regugitated tree bark.

It eats snakes, frogs and young birds.
