Burning Death Save System
Core Rule:
When you are reduced to 0 HP, you can burn a Death Save (i.e., automatically fail one) to gain a temporary combat buff. These buffs are immediate and powerful, but each brings you closer to permanent death.
- When you reach 3 failed death saves (burned or rolled), you die instantly — no rolls.
- Each level of burn gives increasingly stronger effects.Burn 1 Death Save – Desperate Push
One foot in the grave, one hand on the blade.
Effect:
- You may immediately take 1 extra action (attack, dash, disengage, or cast a spell).
- Until the start of your next turn, you gain resistance to all damage.
- You then fall unconscious at 0 HP, unless healed or stabilized.
Burn 1 Death Save, Desperate Push
One foot in the grave, one hand on the blade.
Effect:
- You may immediately take 1 extra action (attack, dash, disengage, or cast a spell).
- Until the start of your next turn, +2 hit and damage rolls.
- You then fall unconscious at 0 HP, unless healed or stabilized.
Burn 2 Death Saves, Last Stand
Your bones ache, your blood freezes, but your will refuses to die.
Effect:
- You stand back up with 1 HP and gain:
- Two actions per turn for the next 2 rounds.
- Your attacks score a critical hit on a 19–20.
- You dont take damage from any means
- After the 2 rounds, you fall unconscious again with 2 failed saves.
Burn 3 Death Saves, Final Will
This is your final moment, make it count.
Effect:
- You stand immediately with temporary HP equal to your max HP.
- For the next turn, you gain:
- Guaranteed critical hits on all attacks.
- Three actions + one bonus action.
- Movement does not provoke opportunity attacks.
- At the end of your thrid turn, you die instantly. No saves, no resurrection unless by divine or mythic means.
