Throat Rend
2nd-level necromancy
Casting time: 1 action
Range: Touch
Target: A creature within touch range
Components: V, S
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute
Classes: Accursed, Cleric, Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard
Subclasses: Sorcerer (Cursed Existence)
You touch a creature’s throat and flood its vocal chords with necrotic energy. The target must make a Constitution saving throw. It takes 2d8 necrotic damage and becomes unable to speak for the duration on a failed save, or half damage and doesn’t lose the ability to speak on a successful one. If the target is unable to speak, it repeats the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, taking 1d8 necrotic damage on a failed save or ending the spell for itself on a successful one.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the initial damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 2nd. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the damage a creature takes by failing the save at the end of its turn increases by 1d8 for every two slot levels above 2nd.
